Between my brother and I, this seems to be a rather fun thing to do to enhance certain games. Take for example, a game like Bioshock Infinite, with it's bright and sunny skies as you adventure with Elizabeth. Makes sense to play the game only during the daylight hours, right? Does this add to the experience for you as it does for me?

Another example my brother brought to me was playing a game like Catherine only when the sun goes down, due to how the majority of the game takes place at night as well as through Vincent's nightmares. To him (my brother), it allowed a deeper connection to the game in that it enhanced the entertainment value. Other "scary" games like Slender or Amnesia could also fall under this category.

What about you? Are there specific games that you only play during set times of the day?

In order for a more personal, wholesome experience?

yes absolutely. i always follow this rule while gaming for getting maximum immersion. i categorize games into either play only at night or only in day. there are also sub categories in which i play a particular game only in morning or afternoon or evening or a mixture of the above.
for example am currently playing AC3 which i play either in morning, afternoon or at night but not in the evening. likewise games like walking dead, resident evil, bioshock, dead space etc will only played during night time. rpg games like final fantasy can be played anytime except evening. action games will only be played in morning. sports games and racing games can be played anytime. I know it does not make any sense but i like to maintain such a schedule

I do this as well, although only with horror games. I always play them at night/when it's dark. Adds to the whole experience of the game.

Well the only thing close to this that I do is primarily play RPGs during the evening a few hours before I sleep I guess. Sort of like reading before bed in a way. I mainly playing games in the evening due to work and what not, but that is about as close to a set time I have when playing specific games.

S.t.a.l.k.e.r., late at night, any of the x - labs, low on resources, memories burned into my . . . .memory.
Ninja'd!

I did the first Bloodsucker mission in Call of Pripyat at night in both game and real life. Super tense D:
The X-labs are something special too indeed.

But I often play my games during daytime. I have to wake up early for work/school, so playing in the little hours will completely wreck me.

I try to only play Amnesia at night, when everyone else in the house has gone to bed. Except by the time that happens I've lost my courage to actually play it.

Other than that, not really.

Good luck playing this piece of ass without sunlight, the game needs you to literally play it in direct sunlight, otherwise your weapons don't work.

Also, horror games, always at night, lights off, if it is raining heavily, curtains open.
Lol what? You must play in direct sunlight or your weapons don't work? What kind of sorcery is this ?

OT: only horror games . Of which there hasn't been a decent one in ages ( apart from those indie ones ). I think the last scary game i played was dead space one . DS2 didn't do atmosphere as well and i stayed the hell away from 3 . Same thing with resident evil . 4 didn't atmosphere well , 5 not so much and i stayed the hell away from 6 . Silent hill stopped being scary after 4 .

So yeah , not many scary games about.

I prefer to play immersive games at night, since the lack of background noise and sunlight allow for better immersion in my case.

I can play other games, or immersive games that I have played in the past during day time.

I always play my fighting games at 7PM and onward, more like 10 or 11. It's when you find the most people online, especially with UMVC3, since if I play at like 1PM English time there is literally nobody on. 7PM onwards there's a bunch of people.

You can ALWAYS find at least someone on BlazBlue at any time though. I had to avoid that god DAMN Tager player because the runbacks were killing my soul.

Me and Rookie always play LoL at like 2AM because that's when his internet calms the fuck down. I usually reserve my Katawa Shoujo time for late evening as well, it just seems more appropriate for some reason.

Late night League of Legends is the only way I get to play without game breaking lag.

I also notice I'm more into games like Skyrim during the evening, less distracting noises so I can be fully immersed in the game :3

Alan Wake in particular is best played at night. During the night sections of the game when the wind is blowing through the trees, it sends shivers down my spine.

Dead Space is also good at night, but I can enjoy it in daylight almost as much.

Resident Evil 4: I just simply couldn't get into the game when I could easily look outside and see sunshine, watch kids playing tag, laugh at cats getting mesmerized by who knows what, and hear birds chirping in the trees. The game already lacked any real atmosphere, especially when the action was put on display more. However, playing it at night while listening to the crickets outside helped bring out an atmosphere that wasn't otherwise there. I've never had to do that to get the appropriate mood of any other above-average survival horror game, though.

I wouldn't usually limit playing a game to a certain time of day, unless it was for reasons outwith my control (like being at work etc). However, when I downloaded Year Walk off the iShop, I followed the suggestion I saw in one of it's reviews and only played that late at night with the lights out. It just wouldn't scan to be playing that in the middle of the day or when it's still light out.

Due to the time of year I was playing it, I can only associate Mirrors Edge with warm, sunny days. Picked that game up one time when I had two weeks off work in the summer. The sunny climes at the time fitted well with the predominantly bright colour palette of said game.

Cartridge had a solar panel of sorts in it, it powered up your weapons if you played it in direct sunlight, sunlight + GBA screen = can't see shit.
what kind of troll made this game?!?! that is some horseshit, everyone knows you must scurry for the hills if you sense sunlight coming -_-

OT: I don't have the luxury of choosing this regardless, but it doesn't really help my immersion from what i remember so i don't care to.

I remember when I was a kid, I'd play the Sly Cooper games in the evening most of the time because at least two thirds of the levels were set at night or had a day to night transition.

I don't usually align the time of day with the time in-game, but I do notice I enjoy certain games more during certain hours. For example, Mass Effect 2 and 3, due to their grittier atmosphere, became twice as intense when I would play them late at night, when my brain wasn't entirely on, and I had all the grime and dust from the day still on me.

On the flip side, during my first playthrough of Bioshock 1, I absolutely could not play during the night because I kept freaking out. Especially at the beginning when you don't really have much of a way to fight the splicers and they seem to be everywhere, just out of sight.
