So like many of you I am disappointed by the Xbox One and am looking into a PlayStation 4. However, there are several lingering questions I still have about the system. I've browsed the web a bit but I haven't been able to find anything, so if anyone can answer one or more of these I would be grateful.

1) Is the PlayStation 4 Eye mandatory?

I understand that it will ship with the console like kinect will ship with the xbox one, but does it have to be connected to use the system and play games?

2) What is the used game stance?

I believe they have generally stated that they will not block used games, but technically xbox isn't either, there's just some troubling fine print attached. Does PS4 have any similar fine print one way or the other?

3) Are there online requirements?

I know the PS4 will not require you to be always online, but will it require periodic check ins like xbox?

I think I read somewhere that with used games Sony themselves will allow you to play used games but it will be up to the publishers to what restrictions they want to apply. If the Xbox 1 requires a fee then the pessimist within me thinks the publishers will do the same thing for the PS4 but I'm not certain. Not sure about your other two questions.

1) Not that I know of. I don't think there is any definitive information on it.

2) Able Seacat already explained it.

3) None that I'm aware of, but like your first question, not a whole lot is known about it. Didn't hear anything official, so I don't think so.

1) It seems unclear probably best to wait until E3 or closer to the release when all the details are known.
2) Explained
3)http://uk.gamespot.com/news/sony-rules-out-always-online-for-ps4-report-6408071

This only rules out always online they could still be stupid and force checking of online again best to wait for more info I suppose.

In the latest edition of Game Informer, dubbed the "PS4 EDITION", GI has a sit-down chat with the heads behind Sony's Playstation 4 related studios, and discussed the internet requirement.

I'll transcribe a little of that here:
GI: Rumours claim that Microsoft's console will require an always-online internet connection to play games. In preview interviews, you've stated that that's not the case with the PS4. Did you ever consider an always online connection for the PS4, and if so, why did you decide against?
Shuhei Yoshida: Did we consider it? No, we didn't consider it. The main reason being that many countries don't have robust internet connections. It makes sense for people to have internet connections to player online games, but for offline gamers there are many countries that we saw that do not have really robust internet connections.

GI: So, [an internet requirement] wasn't even a consideration?
Shuhei Yoshida: Right. We didn't even consider that.

Pretty black and white, from my point of view. No internet requirement of any kind for the PS4. Sony did file a patent for a small micro-chip on each Blu-Ray disc which could create the same situation Microsoft is trying to create, however unlike Microsoft's "Kinect counting people in the room to stop more than a handful of people watching the same media" patent - which the patent office has registered for production - Sony's patent has yet to be moved into production. Meaning no one is using it, producing it or moving forward with it.

After the extreme backlash the Xbone has received, I think Sony understands what they need to do in order to gain the Core gamer's attention. If it throws away it's advantage, well, it's not unlike them. But, for now, we KNOW that the PS4 doesn't do what we KNOW the Xbone does.
