True the PS3 has been out for 6 years.

If Sony does release a PS4 in 2012 it will be just as much of a fail as the PS3 was in 2006. What is your opinion?
What year do you think we live in? 2009 - 2006 = 3 years not six man. OH WAIT!!! do you mean that by the time they release the PS4 6 years will have passed? Cause that makes sense.

Sony don't need to make a new console so soon.... Microsoft do. And Microsoft need to make backwards compatibility with the new console.

Though I will agree that backwards compatibility is a good thing, what I will say is that Microsoft is fine with this generation. Right now the company that is, or at least should be, looking at a new console is Nintendo. Right now they should worry about saturation in the market. Microsoft will most likely need to put out a console around 2013, perhaps 2014. Nintendo should look into 2011, early 2012.

I'm acually kind of glad that they're taking away the cell proccessor. Don't get me wrong the thing is great but its a bit ahead of its time for it to be used much. If they put in a cell proccecor in say 5-10 years then that would be better because companies will have had more experience with it.

Either way, a PS4 shouldnt be realesed in 2012, tats just too early, realese it in 2014-2015 and perfect the console.

Nooooo. I don't want the new consoles to come out for a good few years yet. I say the PS3 will be the top Sony console until 2014/2015.

The PS3 barely got off it's feet...
Because it was overpriced and it never reached its potential. Still better than the Xbox 360 though. I sold mine after 3 weeks of having it.
Not only was it overpriced but it was way too much effort to make games only for the PS3, only good exclusives were LBP, Killzone 2, MGS4, Infamous and a couple others. I have both and I prefer my 360 for multi-platformed games because they usually make it for the 360 first (less effort needed) then convert to PS3. Sony also needs to update the PSN to similar to how live is laid out, if not better and friendlier. PS3's only edge is it's power and no one even uses it to it's full potential.
Yes but if you have a game like, say: "Batman: AA" It's just much better on the PS3, in my opinion. FFXIII boasts that it will push the PS3 to it's full potential.

6 years?!

Either you're wrong or time has been going by a lot faster than usual...
Nah it's only been out for about three.

And now I laugh at you console fanboys...you spent $500 on your PS3 the second it was released. You waited out in the freezing cold. And now you have to do it again while I sit in my cozy computer room spending $150 to upgrade my graphics card every two years.

Ha. Haha. Hahaha.

I think he means by 2012, it would have been out for six years. It was released in Japan late 2006.

Oh, I hadn't heard that about FFXIII. It will be nice to see the ps3 use its power to a further extent than has been seen recently. Although, gameplay is first and foremost in my mind.

OT: I could see the PS3 lasting for at least another 4 years. And yeah, sony needs to concentrate on others things that are currently sub-par like psn. I would like to see the ps3 reach the same height as the ps2, if that's even possible. I can dream, can't I?

pfft pile of crap really.
They're losing money on the PS3 as it is, Like hell if they're making a new one.
I mean they haven't even started to be honest.

A bit of rabbid, insecure fanboyism a few posts up there ehh? ^

Anyway, it's been out for three years, and Sony want it to last for around ten years. So no. Plus the PS3 has just started picking up steam. It flat out sucked at first but now look at this year and what it has next year.

whew much better!
personally, i don't mean to be butting in here with 360 vs PS3 rhetoric, but I think a new revision of the 360 would be marketable much sooner than the PS3. The PS3 has ample power and the open processor structure means that the pixel shaders and other rendering technology can continue to improve on the PS3 without new hardware hitting the market. On the other hand, the 360 is stuck with DirectX 9 technology and all the same video card technology that was available in 2005. I think the 360 could do with a second revision release that improves some things like shadow rendering and generally improved framerates on everything that isn't MW2 or Forza 3.

Probably a bit too soon what with all the new gubbinz coming out for the PS3.

I always wondered why next gen consoles manage to be released about the same time, is it because they can only reach into the future to pull back technology and ideas when all three of the companies come together or just wild coincidence?

And is the new Xbox really going to be called the 720?

I dont think there will be any new consoles out for awhile now- theres so much potential in the systems already in place now. That new hardware isnt always needed. Plus, the cross-platform market is incredibly profitable now.

MS and Sony especially aren't always making money off of every console they sell- MS has hardware problems, still- and Sony still sells their consoles at a loss.

If anything, I think the only new console we could see from the Big Three anytime soon would be a Wii HD peripheral or some kind of upgrade to HD. Though even that seems unlikely to be a total hardware overhaul from Nintendo
