When I was younger I'd just train Pokemon to as high of a level as I could manage, never understanding EV training.

Now, however, I'm obsessed with training a Pokemon in a certain stat. Who else here EV trains their teams?

I'd do a little, but it seems that the games actively try to make it impossible until you've practically finished it.

I EV train to an extent. I'll fight most of my Pokemon's level grinding against a certain EV Pokemon, but for story stuff, I don't care.

Example, I'll raise a Cyndaquil/Quilava on nothing but Oddish until I feel it's time to move on, so it will have a boosted Sp.Atk rating.

Pardon me for being out of the loop, but what does EV training entail?
Killing certain pokémon to earn Effort Value points for your pokémon so that certain stats are higher than others.

Bulbapedia explanation is more in depth [http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/EV].

It can be used to exaggerate certain strengths (Special Attack on Espeon, for example) or to make up for flaws (low defense or HP).

I did for a bit, but I found it so boring. It sucks the fun away...just grinding on low level Pokemon - I mean, wild Pokemon are too low to effectively level up anyway. My current team are all in their 70s and the only decent place is the League on Soul Silver or Platinum.

You just have to cross your fingers and hope you get Pokerus :)
My Gengar's Special Attack is now stupidly good

I learned about it a year or so after third gen came out and I sorta half-assed it for a while until my friends brother got pokerus and fourth gen came out with the power items. Since that stuff happened it takes like twenty minutes to EV train so I do it all the time and now I have more time to soft reset for good IVs and natures on legendaries.

I leanred about EV training through a friend who does it exclusively. She's absolutely OBSESSED with training all of her Pokémon that way. It's... kinda annoying.

As for me, I don't really EV train, because I don't know exactly how. Which only makes people get even MORE ticked off at me because of the fact that my Piplup started out infected with the Pokérus at the start of my Platinum game, which is about a 1-in-64,000 chance...

I don't do any PvP in Pokemon, so I see no need to EV train them.

I just play the game, raise a good team, and collect. I never fight RL trainers, not even friends.

It's not such a big deal thanks to the EV reducing berries you can pick up. Unless your pokémanz has already hit 100. Not sure if it'll still work.

Oh, no, I'm only at about my low 60's. I'm not fretting over it anymore, really. I still have an infected Biderp Bidoof sitting in my box just in case someone else wants the 'rus from me.

Considering EV training takes about 15 minutes if you do it right, I EV train every one of my Pokemon.

All 493 sitting in the box in my Diamond cartridge are EV trained. ^_^

Yes, one of every Pokemon, all level 100, all ready for battle.

Don't look at me like that.

I got so bored with pokemon because of EV training. I wanted something simple and fun. Now all my stupid pokemon die because they suck and I don't know which ones are "Good".
Somehow the 'elite four' always end up making the amateur mistakes of picking all the same type (as with gym leaders) whom of each have a single unique ability which rarely helps.

I don't because my friend talks about spending hours and hours hatching eggs... I don't think so. I only like to grind in MMOs because at least you get to interact with other humans while you do it. But when Black and White come out I might start getting into it again.

Now IV training? I'm no where near that insane.

I have absolutely no clue how EV's work, if I went to one of them Pokemon forums my team would probably get laughed out because I've raised them like normal human beings might do it, I.E. I find certain Pokemon, level it use it.

Yeah I have about a dozen of EV trained Pokemon across several games. Breed specific egg moves, ablities and natures for each one. Never used any of them competitively so I can't vouch that it makes a difference.

It doesn't take that long to max their effort values. Pokevirus + Relevent EV Item + Good Area and you'll be done in 10-20 minutes.
