so today Nintendo announced Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu & Let's go Eevee, a remake of Pokemon Generation 1, for Nintendo Switch

Pokemon Quest

and it was also stated During the press conference that a New Core Pokemon game (or Gen 8 in other words) will be coming to Nintendo Switch in 2019

Let's go Pikachu & Eevee look pretty cool imo but i don't really care about Pokemon Quest and having Generation 8 on Switch next year should be sweet. Glad that they're appealing to both new and old fans by having Pikachu & Eevee this year with Gen 8 next year.

what are other peoples thoughts on the Pokemon announcements?

That Pokemon Quest thingy looks weird.

The visual design seems like they're going for a retraux three dimensional 8-bit style, sort of like the kind 3D Dot Game Heroes had, or maybe something Minecraft-y. Something about it feels off though, and I can't put my finger on it.

yeah i agree. it's a weird looking spin off. but hey if people are into that stuff then they can go nuts. the Gen 1 Remake & Brand new Gen 8 game are what interest me the most.

Let's go Pikachu & Let's Go Eevee look a pretty cool bit of Nostalgia for us "gen wunners" to play and for newcomers to start playing the series with and while we won't get any info about the 2019 Gen 8 Pokemon game it's good to know that it's coming and Let's go Pikachu & Eevee seem like a good way to keep fans occupied this year while we wait for the Brand new Generation 8 game next year.

if it was just the remake and nothing else then i'd be abit disappointed but it's great to hear that something new is also coming next year so everybody wins.

Has some more information than what's presented in this topic.

Those games look more like watered down games designed as a gateway to get Pokemon Go players to buy a Switch, not something created with fans of the normal rpg games in mind.
Although a new rpg is coming next year, these games look like crap.

Not being able to fight wild pokemon, what's up with that crap? Would it have been so hard to just remake yellow properly rather than creating this Pokemon Go Switch version? 🤷

if they made an exact remake of yellow in HD you would have been complaining that the Pokemon Company is stale and "has run out of ideas".

you want a traditional Pokemon game. play the new one coming in 2019. they even say in your article that the 2019 game is going to be in the style of the previous handheld games and that the Let's GO games are more focused on TV play.

you don't want to play the new 2019 gen 8 game and just want play a remake of the old game? then play fire red or leaf green.

Had they announced a proper remake of Pokemon Yellow for the Switch then my reply would probably have been; "You go and get yourself that Nostalgia Moolah, GameFreak 💸💸💸", and I would have genuinely been interested in that game.

I like how one is able to transfer Pokemon between Pokemon Go and the game, it reminds me of that Pokewalker thing that came with Soul Silver and Heart Gold, but not being able to fight wild Pokemon just sounds like an unnecessary watering down of an RPG and it makes me wonder what other corners they might have cut. The safari Zone in Yellow was fun, but making the entire game a Safari Zone 🤷

I'd be fine with a remake of Pokemon Yellow on Switch, but the return to the swipe-based non-combat of Pokemon Go is a major turn off.

the Pokemon Go mechanics definitely are a turn off imo but i do still think this game still has potential to be fun despite the Pokemon Go influence.

they did say the 2019 game will be more like the traditional handheld games so that's reeassuring at least even if i don't like the way the Let's Go games turn out.

You know, I'm usually all for stylized visuals, but these don't work for me. But yeah, it's their franchise, let them do whatever they want with it. Helps that I'm not into Pokemon and have no horse in this race, so to speak. Although hardcore fans might feel otherwise.

[small]I originally came in here to see if this Pokemon announcement was part of a larger one that also included other games. Seems it isn't. The Switch Online Service one made me remember Valkyria Chronicles 4 is a thing tho, so it's all good. Monkey is pleased.[/small]
