Pokemon trading via WiFi (And why it's a pain)

Now as many of you may be aware the Pokemon games added wireless trading via WiFi back when Diamond/Pearl released, and if you have spent any real time with it you would know that a large portion of the people who use it are idiots, now I don't mean to insult anyone who uses the feature, I myself has gained many a pokemon by the use of this feature but every time I boot up the GTS (as it's called in-game) I have to filter through about a 1/100 ratio of good trades/bad trades. Now I find that many people make stupid requests for trades, but I generally find that people like to make the following mistakes/stupid requests.

#1 "Your Mewtwo for my Magikarp": What I mean to say is, people seem to think that people give out legendary pokemon (Such as Mewtwo, Lugia, etc)which are extremely rare, one-of-a-kind-pokemon, for common pokemon that you can't walk 5 feet without tripping over (Such as Pidgey, Sentret, etc), no I'm not giving you the pokemon I spent an hour and a half catching for something I can get by myself in less than 5 minutes.

#2 "My level 20 for your level 100": This is easily one of the most annoying habits I see, people will offer a pokemon, only to ask for that EXACT SAME POKEMON, only at a much higher level, I'm sorry but that's not going to happen, no one in their right mind would agree to such a trade, even if it means getting an evolved version of the pokemon in question(Which I will get to later)

#3 "My Pikachu for your level 1 Gyarados": Now if you don't quite understand what I mean, I'll explain, Gyarados is the evolved version of another pokemon known as Magikarp, but in order to get Magikarp to evolve you MUST reach the minimum level of 20, it's impossible to have a level 1 Gyarados, the same occurs with legendary Pokemon, who will always be encountered at a set level ergo it's impossible to obtain it below said level.

#4 "Have my Graveler, I forgot to mention he has an everstone": the everstone is an item that makes it impossible for a pokemon to evolve when held, now this is one of the worst things that people could do back in the day, but they were nice enough to display any items held by a pokemon at the selection screen (Thankfully), but when you offer pokemon to be traded, it's a complete shot in the dark as to whether or not your going to get a pokemon with or without said item.

Overall these habits make looking for Pokemon on the GTS a long and arduous process that is rarely worthwhile, now I would like to know if I missed anything particularly annoying for you and your thoughts on the GTS in general

They're not idiots. They're kids. Kids are idiots. heh.

I've rarely had trouble getting what I need from it (especially when you use the trade evolution trick/bug). Offer something that's actually a fair trade, or maybe a little in their favor, and you shouldn't have to deal with stupid people being stupid at all.

It's just like that old "chatroulette" fad. Sometimes to find some good friends, you have to wade through a lot of dicks first.

Forgot your /rant.

But I agree with you. Thats why I dont do Wifi GTS, and only do the trade with my friends who I can trust.

EDIT:

Then again, i've seen people make money have to GTS doing exactly what you said in the first example. Though if someone is willing to give you a legendary level 100 for your lv 1 average pokemon, then its been hacked somehow. Or tehy just dont care.

... I have seen legit trades like that though. I'm an egg farmer just out of the goodness of my heart or I'll take commissions for money or decent pokemon(more often the latter then the former) and get you an egg, and people have traded me their groudons and arceus for lv. 1 Cyndaquil with the right nature. Most recently, I got a lv. 68 Latios for a lv. 1 Female Sandile with an adamant nature with Fire/thunder fang combo cause someone wanted it that badly and said that she could never get the egg to go her way or the pokemon with the necessary moves.

And hoesntly, i didnt even want the groudon. I didnt honestly care, but she insisted I take it as payment (weirdly, cause it was a legit). I wound up trading it back though for a decent Eevee she had in the box trying to get a different nature that made an excellent Umbreon.

It's just a bit annoying but sometimes you get good ones. I found one earlier, L1 feebas holding the prism scale for a L1-9 cherubi. I was meaning to get around to getting a cherrim so I went out, caught one, bred it, now I have a kickass milotic :)

You've just got to be prepared for a totally unmoderated service that's open to anyone worldwide to be 90% morons who get off on wasting other people's time.

If you arrange for the trade than by all means go nuts, if you were willing to give me a Feebas with a Prism scale (the hunt for which triggered this post) I'd give you my Zekrom (I don't use him anyway). Even though they are kids they should have some sense of whether or not it's a fair trade.

I'll give you my Mewtwo for a Magikarp!

If that Magikarp is Adamant/Jolly with perfect 31 IVs.

Well... I dont know. it is a game for kids, and most kids dont realize it. the entire thing is a kid trades, so his friend will want to trade with him, and then they'll have to buy the game. The whole trading is a money making aspect, and nintendo just sees it as "kids trading to other kids".

if they wnated to, they could make the GTS far more in depth and see if trades are "fair or not". Like listing what a pokemon you're putting up should go for, or what you need to get something.

Well you raise a valid point, but at the same time I know people my age who still play the game and it annoys me to no end that WE have to put up with these sorts of stupid trades, I can come up with a few ways to improve the GTS right off the top of my head, they need to let me see more than the 10-ish offers I see when I boot up the GTS, and they need to put a time limit on trades just so bad trades don't always take up the limited number of offers I can view, also your idea could work (I can come back a month later and see the same stupid offers).

I know how you feel. I know Serebii.net has a trading community, but I've always wanted to start one, or at least get a bunch of people together that can help each other. I actually wanted a Magikarp too, but people were asking for like Level 100 Arceus or Dialga or all that. Not sure how they think that's going to work, but whatever.

No, I do too. I'll say you';re in the age range of 18-25 (like me) and still play pokemon cause you where first Generation. But Nintendo makes most of its money on this franchise on the younger audience, cause they're more likely to make money from them on their cartoons and plush toys and etc. Thats why you wont really see an "adult" pokemon game.

I'm not saying they cant edit the GTS like that, and it wouldnt make sense to kids. You could still override it and be stupid and say I want a lv. 1 Typhlosion for my lv 100 perfect EV/IV trained Crobat. But yeah, they could definitely do something for it, like they do for the in game and metagame. Its just this is geared toward kids as the majority primary focus audience (and it should stay that way) and will always be geared that way.

I more or less am inclined to agree, they have to appeal to their bottom line, but at the same time I really hate having to deal with this, I just felt like saying something.

May be off topic but I have a Level 73 Haxorus for trade for a Victini?
Nature, EVs, IVs?

Assuming you know what any of that means...I might do it. My Victini is collecting dust due to Battle Subway banishment.

It's considerably easier when comparing the prices of all the plane tickets people would have to buy to trade locally.

Also, you shouldn't actually look for stuff, just put up stuff and if you're rational about your requests you should get a trade done in like a day max.

Oh, wait? You meant my Haxorus?

FUUUUUU
If you just want the Pokedex data, I'll trade it to you and they you can trade it back to me. I've got no problem doing things like that.

#2 "My level 20 for your level 100"
YES! I was trying to get a Reshiram. All offering I could find were for lvl 9 and under legends.
Like wtf!?
I only got 3 lvl 9 and under legends and they are the lvl 5 event Jirachis with draco meteor. I doubt you can find any lvl 9 or under legends.
