There has been no response from Google on moot's role in the company. What do you folks think of this hire, and what do you think he might have been hired for?

Well the tech sector is always looking for talent, and pays very well for tech talent compared to other industries. And someone else would have hired him if Google didn't step in.

So I have to say Google has their reasons of why they would hire the founder of a pretty controversial site. I doubt someone like him is just going to be doing routine maintenance. Google likely hire him into a position that will give him a big influence on Google products. And as the article suggests, he may be putting his input into helping making Google Plus into something viable. As Google plus has failed as a social media site up to this point.

I imagine they'll probably have him working on social media platforms in some capacity. He's got a very unique experience when it comes to fostering an online community.

This.

Moot's little antichrist baby of an online community may be off-putting and financially unrewarding, but there's no denying that it is very popular and wildly different. If I had to guess, Google wants to study 4chan as a way of extracting the... *positive attributes* ...of the site's design, purpose, and audience, and figure out how to implement them in a more economical and controllable social network or forum. Moot's role is probably more as an adviser or consultant, than an engineer. As far as that goes, yeah, he's probably the man for the job, and I couldn't forsee his hiring being detrimental in any way.

Dunno, just speculation.

Google has made an unwise decision. 4chan is the only thing that Moot ever made that worked out, and it was just an American 2chan. All his other projects without exception have failed, why does Google think he can save their failed social network with a man who can't make social networks work?
