Poll: A question for Warhammer 40,000 players...

I've been thinking about starting an Ork army, does anyone have any ideas as to what I should get, or if you think I should play as something else? (I didn't include a few armies in the poll because I either couldn't fit them or wouldn't play as them anyway.)

Look at the background bits on the website. Find something that sounds cool and play as them. That's why I played as High Elfs in Warhammer Fantasay.

For 40K I went with Tau, they were cool.

Look, these threads confuse me, can't you just make your own mind up by looking at each race etc? I doubt anyone actually chooses stuff based on the opinions of the escapists.

Hey if you like an unending wave of bodys bent on carnage up close go Nids
If you like to make poping noise for your gun when doing the above then go Orks
if you want to hit the side of a barn while standing in it while doing the above the play IG

Well Orkz are fun as balls, and pretty funny too. But I went for Eldar because they're fun, weird and have like an interesting background

I expected a reference to something that might help, or positive constructive feedback. What did it sound like? I expected a pizza? These threads confuse you, but you confuse me. Why ask a question with such an obvious answer?

I love Orks! They're fun to convert and paint, don't play though, but they can deffinately kick ass on the battlefield.

Take a look through the background for the race you're interested in, maybe play a trial game in a Games Workshop store, and, if you find the Orks fun to play as and find their fluff interesting, then by all means, go for it!

Personally, I'd say no, but that's because I much prefer the Fantasy Orcs, and don't really see Orks as gun-toting warriors in the future, so I chose to avoid them because I don't really like the background. Having said that, gun-toting menaces that just love to go crazy and live for the fight may be just what you want.

If I was going to recommend an army, I'd say either Imperial Guard, Chaos or Space Marines, mostly because those are the armies I enjoy playing as, so I'm bound to recommend them.

Still, like I said: if you enjoy playing as the Orks - and I'd definitely recommend asking about a trial game - then, by all means, collect the Orks. If you like their background, seriously consider it. Also, the Orks have some awesome miniatures available, so if you like the look of the models, then go for it as well - I may not play Orks, but I pick up some of the models whenever I have some spare cash because they're wonderful to convert and look amazing.

Go with what you feel fits you the best.
Orks are always funny and one of the better melee fighters. If that's what you want, then go for it.

I'm mostly Eldar and Necrons, but I do a bit of most armies.

From a longevity standpoint you?re probably best off finding an army you can use different tactics for. The argument for going with the background you like best is a good one but it wares off quickly once you've played 20 games and had to fight the exact same way in all of them.

Better to get an army you can retool just by buying a few units than having to start from scratch because you've gunlined your way through a couple of campaigns and now want to go close combat.

Well I was more of a Necron (which isn't mentioned) person but also used IG alot. But I never played as Orks but they can create population based on turrets which is a bit of an advantage over most teams. (except for chaos because they get a demonspawn on their team) It mostly just depends on how you play the game.

Necrons/space marines here. I have space marines because they are a good starting point. Especially if your like me and couldnt paint to save your life to begin with. Followed a few step by step guides, got into the story a bit and began an army.

Then when I gained an understanding of the basic story I chose the necrons. Soulless killing machines that nothing can contain. Awesome.

Probably go with chaos or tau next.

However, I dont really play the game, I just like to construct and paint as a hobby to pass the time.

all the army's are awesome, I have 3000 pts of Eldar, 4000 Marines, around 1500 Chaos,
1000 Orks, 1500 pts Tyranids, I love all the armies, and all have their own appeal.
