I associate with some people who would be considered alpha males. One in particular has a very, very extreme ego. He is never wrong, and he is the best or so he thinks.Any person with an IQ over 20 can see things he can't, for example, most of the problems in his life are caused by himself and his massive ego. Currently he is married to a horrible woman, but moved out because she had her boyfriend move in and now she is pregnant and he is going to have to pay Child support for his son and the baby she's having wih her boyfriend. He keeps dating and will frequently cheat on his whoever his current girlfriend is and won't care what I have to say, and has the gull to call me stupid, But now he has to move back in with his parents and well he's in like his early forties. I have seen him for brief periods become what I guess you would call a beta-male usually after he does something stupid, but he's still alpha enough to not listen to anyone else.

So my question is can an alpha male really kill himself? Especially when hey are as egotistical as the one I described? I really doubt It... What do you think?

Quite frankly an ego like that just makes it sound like he's massively insecure. I don't see how that would make him an 'alpha'. I don't think classifying people as 'alpha males' makes much sense anyway.
Well usually, atleast in my experience, insecure people usually will do anything to be accepted. They aren't leaders but are followers. "Alpha males" Take charge and don't take prisoners. After reading fawxy's comment It occurred to me that he is most likely an insecure person posing as an alpha male.So aka a douchebag, he doesn't demand respect but instead name calls who in there right mind would respect him? There is no reason to! He has burned every bridge by himself by being an asshole and thinking(tricking himself into thinking) he's the best.

Does he act in a way that demands authority/respect? Doesn't sound like it.

In that sense, he isn't an "alpha male". He's an insecure ****. And THAT is the source of his problems.
Lol thanks for the laughs and insight :D

Oh for fuck's sake, that isn't what an Alpha Male is. An Alpha Male is simply the male at the apex of a social/group hierarchy. That's it, all there is to it.

Alpha Male Suicide would make a cool band name.

And in my experience, no, guys like that tend to love themselves too much. The only way they will cause their own death is through stupid actions.

You keep using alpha male like it is a definitive measurable characteristic that everything else about a persons personality revolves around.

All it is is a title. A categorisation of people that exhibit general leadership characteristics, but here's the kicker: They're still people. The biggest douchebag in the world has his own cares, feelings, emotions, loves and losses. Even if he is not as booksmart as you he still spends time pondering the meaning of life, probing his own philosophical views and trying to comprehend the universe, and hey, he might actually have a better grasp of it than we do!
There will be times when an alpha male doesn't want to take charge, the same way there are times a beta male will. There are times an alpha male will be shy, compassionate and selfless the same way there are times a beta male will be headstrong, brutal and selfish. It is a general term for the general behaviour a person generally has, there are no absolutes and no limitations with the term alpha male.

"Alpha male" isn't a definite character to be able to judge people with the same way an "outgoing person" isn't a definitive label to say anything about a person's inner feelings and quality of life.

Anybody can eventually end up killing themselves. With that said... people who are full of themselves don't strike me as the sort that would try to kill themselves.
