It depends on how I?m feeling on whether I choose to watch a British comedy or an American comedy. In these modern days both can be witty however, American is mostly slapstick, in your face type of comedy, whereas, British Comedy is more dry and tend to more black.

Gun to my head, id say British-style comedy was better.

What do you think is better and why?

British tends to make me laugh more, so it's my favorite out of the two.

These American vs. British ANYTHING always end up in favor of the British, Escapist is more based in GB than the USA.

Also, this is a vs. thread.

Both.

As I've said in other threads, both American and British comedy can range from utter utter shit (The Big Bang Theory, That 70s Show, Two pints of lager..., Bernard Manning) to sublime excellence (Arrested Development, 30 Rock, Peep Show, Anything Charlie Brooker has ever said/done); I simply could not chose one over the other.

I'll be honest and say that I cba to check for certain, but I think you're 100% incorrect on that point.

Most American comedy sucks, but we also have George Carlin and Richard Pryor...

Ah well, our movies suck, so yeah, I'll go with British.

Depends on the subject i think, if it were TV shows, i think the states would win hands down.

I like the British humor over American because we in the US tend to force jokes into where they don't belong and even tend to censor it so as to "not corrupt the mind of the childrens"

British, for sure.

Death at a Funeral (the UK version) had me in stitches, along with Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.

I lean somewhat in favor of British comedy (being as miserably cynical as I am), but America is so vast that it's no wonder that it's produced a great deal of excellent stuff in addition to their piles and piles of terrible comedy.

Depends on the show, but mostly I prefer American. Psych, Scrubs, House (seems like a drama/comedy to me at least), are all some of my favorite shows. Though the British have Monty Python, that was a good 30 years ago now. They're still some of the best though.

Personally i find british comedy be a bit more intelligent and often more surreal. American comedies seem just too blunt and lack subtelty. Ofcourse, plenty of good US stand-up comedians but when it comes to TV series i pick brits anyday.

I don't have a preference, but most of Monthy Python jokes get get on my nerves. Plus the god awful constant laughing.

However, I have been told that I have a dry sense of humor. So, I guess that I will vote for British comedy just for that reason. Plus, A lot of American "comedies" are just not funny at all, but I am sure that is the same with Brit humor as well.

I love American comedy. I think the UK should negotiate rights to get the Today Show and Colbert Report broadcast over here.

British I guess. I may be biased but the Brits get sarcasm! Also, we get Blackadder, Monty Python, Red Dwarf. I will admit that the Brits have had their fair share of utterly crap "comedy" too, nodody's perfect.

I have nothing against American comedies, I just think British is better.
