I am Scottish (for the Americans its part of the U.K) and I watch a lot of TV both American and British and I have to say most of the "Award winning/hit U.S series" are rubbish or at least aren?t very good, I only go out my way too see family guy and Futurama. The US life on mars remake was diabolical too say the least. But then again us Brits also have absolutely rotten shows which are hyped e.g the new series of doctor who starring Matt Smith, one of the worst actors I?ve ever seen who is only outshined in terms of shitness by his mono-faced sidekick (also hot doesn?t equal a good actor Megan Fox is an example of this), I only watched Victory of the Daleks and those one?s with them angel?s in them but...they were an abomination. But we also have some good TV shows like (insert comedy game show here e.g QI and You Have been Watching),Live at the Apollo, Friday night with Jonathan Ross ect. I personally think American TV for the most part is rubbish and British TV is slightly less rubbish but what do you prefer forum?

P.S Grammar Nazi?s rejoice its 100% grammatically accurate I have conformed :D.

Flimsii man stiffen up your spelling...

PS, British TV, it goes somewhere and actually comes to an end. Versus the American model of a beginning, infinitely extended middle and then cancellation with cobble up ending written mid series...

Well, they both have good things. As I have seen, the American 'Whose line is it anyway' is far superior to our version.
And out version of Red Dwarf was far superior.
I can't say I prefer either. Although any programs I do watch tend to be on a BBC channel. Doesn't mean it is better, just that I am exposed to it more.

British mainly because I live in the UK and I've watched things like Friends and the sort and I don't find them funny. I find Simpsons, Family Guy and South Park funny but I prefer many more British things like Ashes To Ashes (not a comedy I know but damn I want an Audi Quatro now!), Monty Python, My Family, Only Fools And Horses, Porridge and the sort on G.O.L.D. When I went to Florida on Holiday I watched some TV there and found the things on tele a bit boring excpet the American shows stated. Also I like QI, damn that feeds me some knowledge.

I'd have to say in general that we do better sitcoms such as Outnumbered, Two Pints of Lager and so on, better factual/panel shows such as Top Gear, QI, Have I got News for You and probably better news since the BBC aims to be more neutral than many of the politically leaning networks in America, such as Fox.

On the other hand..America has some amazing animated shows like Family Guy, Simpsons, Futurama..

But I think, overall, I'd go with British TV for the humour. Charlie Brooker is like a deal breaker here.

I watch far more American shows than British. I also prefer to watch American, as there are slight cultural differences that can change the meaning that the show is trying to get across that sometimes you won't get.

British. I prefer the sense of humour us Europeans have. That said some American shows are beginning to pick up on that style of humour

I've been to America and watched American T.V... I prefer the Brit T.V. Family guy can have 4 commercial breaks in one episode and this can be as soon as the how starts or a couple minutes before it ends... such a mess. They show movies back to back.. the same movie back to back with all the violence and swearing pulled out even after the water shed.

I think that pretty much all Americans on the Escapist know that Scotland is part of the UK and that Scottish is the demonym for people from Scotland. Not in those exact words of course.

On Topic: I don't watch much TV but all of my favorite shows are made in the US or Canada.

On average I think it tends to be quality (British) over quantity (American). Plus we don't have Fox, I made the mistake of listening to the firefly commentaries and now believe that Fox can burn in a firey pit somewhere. I tend to find that a mix of American and British TV is best, but I can't watch pure American tv as the times that I've been to America I've usally found the tv so bad that I end up watching Clifford the big red dog and Ben 10 for entertainment (This was just a year ago when I was 18!!).
But on another note, I'd advise watching more episodes of the new Doctor Who, if Victory of the Daleks is the only Matt Smith one you've seen then definately watch more, that was the worst episode this series.

You have no right to say Matt Smith is the worst actor ever after one episode.

Beacause of this, I'm not answering the question.

Code:
No Versus threads here. Read the rules. As no versus threads are here, I can pick both.

I don't watch a lot of TV however when I do they are more often British than American. Dr Who, life on mars, Top Gear, QI, being human etc. are all examples of good quality television that I would happily watch over American shows. Maybe its the charisma thats often lacking in American TV that keeps me preferring British television.

Don't get me wrong, America produces some amazing stuff, but they always go over the top with it. For example, CSI is pretty good, but there are several versions -Miami, New York, Las Vegas and they have a ridiculous amount of seasons all based on the same basic story.

You'd be extremely surprised in how many Americans don't know that.

Sorry, you don't get to be condescending to forum members when your grammar and punctuation is so atrocious.

OT: I'm a fan of Skins, but I like Scrubs more. America wins.
