I saw the title Amnesia pop up on many other topics and I had no clue what anyone was talking about. Actually, since joining this board I have been informed on so much I was missing out on by just talking with my friends and what they like. So that made me wonder, how influential have the escapist forums been on your gaming? Whether stepping out and trying something new, or just evaluating why you really like what you do, or occasionally pointing out how much of a sheep you really can be, how would you rate others' suggestions?

Thanks to the polling thread started by icame, I jumped on Steam and downloaded the demo. As soon as my next check comes in, I'm all over Amnesia :) I used to think horror games were going downhill into obscurity (as pointed out by extra credits), and that Silent Hill was a final foothold for the genre. Thank you for all the informants out there, you all have made my life better. (Due to the heart complications Amnesia may cause, my life may be shorter as well.)

Well you're welcome! I think?

I've seen a couple of threads that have influential on what I've been gaming. It was here I heard of Penumbra (predecessor of Amnesia), Heroes of Newerth (countless hours wasted here) and Fahrenheit (though the last half sucked!), among other things.

It's been a little influential on my gaming, but I tend to check Joystiq, Kotaku and Gametrailers every day, so I get a lot of my information from there.

Dont think it's ever influenced me to buy a game to be honest, found Amnesia just through sheer luck of looking at the steam main page for once. Downloaded the demo and ended up buying the full version a few minutes later, it's awesome.

Yeah, I really am uninformed. All my internet was used for before was e-mail, facebook, classes, and porn. With site suggestions like those, I may have to stop my online classes or loose some friends on facebook. :D

And gaming, I hope!

Yeah you gotta be careful there, because all of a sudden you'll find yourself spending the whole day browsing various sites online. I also have a couple of friends who have succumbed to the mighty power of Zynga's Facebook games. So for the love of God, be careful! The interweb is a dangerous place.

Somewhat.

Yahtzee got me to purchase Psychonauts (which is awesome), and all the posters about the place influenced me to come out of my safety-box and buy Fallout 3. (which is also awesome)

It convinced me to check out Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura and that's a pretty good game.

I also convinced someone to check out The Void; so my life has not been futile.

Yes, very, in fact the Escapist is so good, that I now use it every day! I might make it my homepage, because every time I turn on my computer, I always end up on the Escapist anyway.

Thank you Escapist!
