Which one do you think will be a better Spiderman?

I saw a clip, and Garfield looks and acts more like Peter did in the 90s show.

Um... ok.

Macguire's Spiderman would have been perfect if he cracked jokes more often and they focused a little more on how good of an actual scientist Parker is.

From what I've seen of Garfield's Spiderman, he's certainly telling more jokes, and he's definately got the right build (Spiderman was never meant to be bulky, but lithe).

We shall see.

We can't judge until Amazing Spider-Man comes out really can we? But I was never a big fan of Toby, so I hope Garfield rocks it.

He is? At least it's more faithful to the comics then (although the jokes could go either way).

I'll wait until I've seen the movie before I pass judgement though.

Although I enjoyed the Spiderman films with Toby, I must say I never thought he looked right for it. It was done well enough but I always thought it never looked or even sounded right.

I do like Andrew Garfield though, so hopefully this new spiderman film turns out well. Cautiously optimistic.

The trailers make him look promising but I'll reserve my judgement for when I see the movie. Nonetheless, he has great potential.

I say Tobey will be a better Peter, could go either way for Spider-Man at this point.

Well I'm a McGuire fan, but Garfield was good in The Social Network. I think it all hinges on how it's written now.

I won't make up my mind yet but from trailers and what not I am really looking forward to the new movie and I think Andrew seems to be a really good fit

It's Tobey with an E.

OP: I never really grew attached to Maguire and Spiderman 3 was the dealbreaker for me. From what I've seen, Garfield deservers the chance to at least try his hand at being a fresh start for Spiderman.

I say let him.

It's unfair to make the judgement now seeing how the Amazing Spiderman film isn't out yet (making judgement from the clips doesn't count since we're not getting the full scope of him). So right now I'm just voting for Tobey.

Tobey Macguire, since I'm more familiar with him as Spider-Man, and I haven't really read any of the comic books so I have no basis for comparison.

And I never thought I'd say this, but...I had his mind set on thinking that The Amazing Spider-Man would be shit from the moment I heard of it, since I felt a reboot was too soon and then I saw Andrew Garfield, who looks drastically different to Macguire. But then I actually watched the trailer in the cinema before The Hunger Games and it genuinely looks good.

Everything I've seen so far tells me that the answer to this debate will actually come from parts of the movies not from the actors (as a lot of people are already pointing to in this thread). My gut feeling so far is that Amazing Spider-man will have the better adaptation of Spider-man's character but the Sam Raimi film (at least the first one) will have the better story. I will say I like MacGuire as Spider-man a bit more from what I've seen so far because of one minor nit pick. I hate Garfield's hair in the movie and I hate more that it is always poofy when he takes the mask off. That is not how hair works.

I loved the original Spider-mans, but Andrew is looking incredibly promising.
In nearly every way, really. And yeah, Spider-man was originally lithe and more a slim nerd, Toby was too bulky and not really nerdy but more just socially awkward.

Abstaining until evidence. MacGuire wasn't the greatest example, really only doing his brainy science fun in number 2 (by far the best, you'll remember), but Mr Garfield appears to be doing more of that, and cracking a few more jokes. Gonna be fun to compare them later, though.

I hated Toby's spider-man, so I'm quite interested in the new movie. I'm giving Garfield the edge, but more because I thought Toby was one of the worst things about the last series of Spidey movies.

Haven't seen Garfield in the new movie so it is impossible to call. I actually really like Macguire as an actor but I feel like their are severe problems with his portrayal of spider-man, it would be like an actor playing Batman as happy go lucky.
