Okay, I played the first Animal Crossing for the GC (going by US/EU releases, not including the JAP N64 Animal Forest) and loved it. I bought Wild World when it came out, and played it beyond reason. Now I own Let's go to the City (Or City Folk in the US) and I'm totally hooked.

What is it? I don't understand. I'm so obsessed with this game that has no objectives. I could be in a complete rage, and all I'd have to do is hear the music, and it would slowly drift me into contempt.

I spend my time growing fruit to get money to get a bigger house to put in furniture that has NO REAL USE, but to make me happy that I own it. I wake up early on a Sunday morning to buy turnips to sell through the week to make money for the same reason. I talk to the townspeople, frantically trying to earn their friendship, which serves no purpose to the game, but it makes me feel better. And at the end of a long day of fishing, I retire to the museum, to have a cup of coffee in the café, which also benifits me nothing.

No story, no objectives, nothing. And I can't get enough of it... So who else plays it? Yeah, it's time for you guys who DO play it to 'fess up. It's nothing to be ashamed of. Does this
series have a hold on you like it does me? And WHY?!

And feel free to branch off into other general discussion about the game, I welcome it! Give me your experiences and so on =)

I've only played AC:WW, and I was obsessed with it on the DS. After a while I quit it suddenly. Then after that I picked it up and quit again. xD It held me for a while, though.
That game boosted my fear of Tarantulas and bees. D:

I owned WW a total of 6 times over the years. All times I decided I hated it, then decided I missed it.

But I never got Elvis the lion back in my town...

Why is there no "Played it, it's shit." option?
I haven't played it but your poll's a bit one-sided.
Edit: And you just changed it. Right.

I played AC for the gamecube and it only managed to keep my attention for a few hours before i got the painful urge to kill something. I wish i still had it though... i've gotten bored with the virtual murder and want to play something peaceful and cheery.

Wait what am i saying?! Its time for BLOODY MURDER!!!!

My friends are in love with it...I see NO APPEAL WHATSOEVER! No enemies, you basically wander around digging shit up and then you decorate your house. Oh boy! Cute sims who don't need to poop...I'm REALLY impressed...

After playing Animal Crossing all i can say is that the game is a time waster. Nothing happens at all. Even in game, the environment may change, but essentially nothing ever happens. It is a casual game that someone would play on a lazy afternoon. I understand why some people would enjoy playing it, but it is something you should always play in spurts.

Ha. Sorry, but I haven't a clue what you're on about. The options on the poll have been there since I made it, covering every option necessary in order to avoid being biased. I think you misread it.

But does a game HAVE to have enemies to entertain? This game is based on communication. Sure it's incredibly slow paced, but it intends to be.

I agree fully with your last bit. I play WoW, so I balance the little free time I have between two addictive games. To finish all your 'chores' on AC (Like cleaning up the town, digging shit up and sending people letters etc) in a day, you can take between half an hour and an hour. That's all you need to do. Short spurts on the game every day is the way to go.

When I posted, there was only three options on the poll. After I posted, I saw the rest. Something happened...

Edit: Or maybe I logged in to post, at which point the options that were available revealed themselves, instead of just the ones already voted on... Woops.

I was completely addicted to it on the DS. I was obsessed with getting my town and house perfect. I kept starting new games so my town would be better but then I thought "fuck it... It's never going to happen...", so I stopped playing after about 50 new games. I prefer the GC version for a lot of reasons.

I'm thoroughly bored with the series, but City Folk looks really good. How does it compare to the other two?

It's like the gamecube version and the DS version combined. It has all the great seasons and holidays again, like Christmas, and Easter, and Halloween, and the terrain has things like hills and cliffs again. It's fixed all the areas where it went wrong in the DS game, and going to the city is a brilliant touch.

There's also slightly more to aspire for, as there are furniture sets sold in a store in the city that cost upwards of 100,000 bells just for one piece of furniture.

With that, new fish, new bugs, new dialogue, I'd say it's the best in the series.

I had the DS version, my town was great, it was perfect (the game said so) .... but then I lost interest and my town pretty much fell into ruin.... it kind of makes me feel bad. I ignored my nintendog also and now it hates me.

The only problem with AC is that after YEARS of playing the first one (on and off of course), starting an entire new life in Wild World made me just feel empty

I've only played the original, and am still confused as to why I picked the game up at all.

I picked it back up recently, and found that my town had fallen to ruin (and weeds), and my favorite character, Samson, had moved away. It was pretty depressing.

I play it all the time.

I'm not even sure if I like the game anymore, but I can't seem to put it down. It's like crack, really. It's an addiction.
