So which is your prefered choice. Do you like settling down to read your favourite manga or would you rather sit and watch it in anime form on the big screen.

Also post your most loved Series and tell us why it beats the rest

For me it has to be Bleach, been a massive fan for ages, love the characters and the story is amazing. Just beats FMA for me !!

No Vs. Threads please.

OT: I would rather watch an anime. I can multi-task more easily while watching/listening to it.

I can rarely make out what is going on in manga. Whenever any action is happening, it all just becomes a little too busy.
So, anime for me.

Needs a "Both" option.

I chose Manga because i find myself reading more Manga than watching Anime.

And VS don't end very well most of the time, they are not a good idea.

i love both, but if i had to pick it would be anime because of the sense of epicness when the music kicks in etc. i also choose bleach because ive loved it since it started and i always will :D and i still love everything that happens and the development (i love everything!), i also like FMA but its not as good :/

i'm not sure, depends what i want and how i want it.

i prefer the manga because you can understand whats happening in a fightscene. Sure, in an anime they can make sure you understand, by slowing it down so much that it just seems like a choreographed dramatic ballet scene or something... which would be fine if i were wanting to watch something that wasn't action-blood-rushing-awesome paced... but most the time i don't. In manga, the fighting isn't moving, but in your head, you can visualise it all happening at a preferred speed, with all the techniques being visible etc.
Another point agaisnt Anime, again a fighting transition problem, would be the talking. yeah sure, in the manga, a monologue explaining the technique is acceptable, because they could be talking as fast as they are fighting... okay, no they couldn't, but shut up, i don't tend to think about it! in anime though, both characters stand still, or in that "swordagainstsword shaking staredown", awaiting the opponent to finish talking... which just breaks the flow slightly.

However, if i'm in an emotional mood, i would watch anime any day over reading manga. sure, stories and backgrounds touch me in mangas, but i have never cried reading a manga, no matter how emotional i was feeling. Anime though, it can make me cry... i guess i connect more with the characters or something, there voices being not contained in a speech bubble. so yeah, it all boils down to what mood i am in.

Regardless though, i will do both. I will watch all those anime episodes i watch the day an english sub update is released, i will read each manga chapter on the day of release too. i can't have one without the other, don't make me choose.

EDIT: wasn't going to mention favourite animes/mangas... but its so hard not to. I used to love Bleach most, and i've watched every single episode ever released. and by doing so, i've noticed a decline in quality, which has upset me. I think the animators have gotten lazier/reduced in number, and now the fights aren't nearly as impressive to me anymore. i still watch it though. You would have never heard me say this before, but i much prefer watching Naruto or One piece or FMA to Bleach... they all seem to have taken a step forward, whilst Bleach took one back. perhaps just my opinion, and there are problems with all of them (such as One Piece having far too many scenes where it switches one by one between 40 different characters with their mouths open, making gagging noises due to awe/fear of seeing an attack ¬_¬)
I don't know what people mean by FMA, do you mean this new one thats coming out? Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood follows the story of the manga, and i've been following it for ages now and it is still awesome (though the english dubs are sounding pretty lame).
Naruto has really impressive fight scenes... probably the best current day anime i'm watching at the moment... though i wouldn't say its my favourite. One piece snatches that easily XD
I also read Hunter x hunter (which started again recently :D yay), History's strongest disciple kenichi, Claymore and many others, which are all brilliant

I'm in a bad mood so please don't take the following too seriously. Or do, I don't really care.

Threads like these bring out the people who like to stroke their ego about all the "intelligent" and "sophistacted" anime and manga they read / watch. I'm not saying don't watch but no-one cares how awesome they are.

I also imagine 9/10 who post here will go on about how awesome Death Note is. I'll not get started on that.

/endrant

I personally much prefer anime. I don't get whats not to like when your favourite manga gets animated. The whole "manga is better than anime" is quite a weak argument if you ask me but I'll not go into it too much as I'm trying to eat dinner =D

I understand how some adaptions aren't always faithul (the only thing that comes to me right now is FMA) but even so you can always view it as an extension of your favourite series.

Anime helped to give much more depth than manga is capable of by providing not only colour but sound as well. Music is something that helps to make a good anime a much better one, or can help redeem a bad one slightly. Aside from music it also gives the characters a voice, which is something much more powerful that reading.

I'm sure I'll think of some other things, can't right now though. Well thats helped put me in a better mood for now, feel free to take me up on any points I've made and ignore the first section.

you make very valid points, that i wanted to make but couldn't phrase right and gave up. thankyou.
people will probably argue (people who take English for higher education... people like me but not me) saying "Voice can be created through text"... which is true... but Manga's and novels are very different... its hard to extract the voice of characters through just those few speech bubbles.

I prefer manga but with all these arguments against it saying animes better then so. Are the movies of books always better? Hell no. My favorite Manga is DeathNote and the anime may be faithful but its nowhere near as good. Mabey you guys do all your reading online i use to and hated it i buy all my Manga and theres just somthing really cool and special about it kind of like how i'd never buy that Nook when i want to read a book i'll buy it when i want to watch my anime i'll toss in my deathnote volumes on dvd. Went off on a pointless rant there. The manga is ussualy always better because the anime is never truley faithful. I do understand how alot of people like anime more its whatever your exposed to first i guess. You see anime first you like anime you read it you prefer the manga.

I also like both; because there's more manga then there is anime.
Meaning more content.
Meaning more stories.
Meaning a whole lot of things you can't show on TV.

I enjoy anime more simply because it's what I grew up with and am used to. Manga just feels too slow for my taste, though if I have access to the manga I will definitely read it. Favourite anime would be FMA (haven't seen Brotherhood yet) or DBZ.

This is a versus thread.
It's asking what we prefer, nothing more.

OT: Neither.
I prefer Manhwa.

i have to say both because manga is great for the whole story and more indepth plots,

but anime is also great because it actually shows you how it all comes together and is a visual masterpiece most of the time
