Well, I'm a student and these forums never have a shortage of people wanting to scream their opinions at computer screens for hours and hours through the night (whether they actually thought of it themselves, or *cleverly* copy pasted it from some other source).

I'm sure many people have gone to the midnight release, have played through the night, and are probably waking up now, calling into work that they'll be sick, or skipping classes to play just *one* more level. But now that I'm finished class, it comes to a possibility of mine that maybe, I'll go pick this game up.

Now, I've played halo and I thought it was a fun game. Mind blowing? Maybe- but as time went on and I didn't shell out the cash for a live subscription I didn't get sucked into the multi-player world. I read some books, and got into the entire halo universe. "Hey, this world is pretty cool." As halo 2 came along, nothing fresh came by, it felt as though I was playing the same game over again. Sure the story progressed and some new things came into play but it was no where near the *feeling* I had playing the first game. The third one came out, and I eventually shelled out the cash for it, and it felt like I was trudging through a swamp of stagnant repetition. Every so often, you'd find a rotting corpse that would be fun to poke, but it didn't remove the feeling that you're knee deep in toad turd.

Now of course, halo isn't the worst game of all time, and I've played the multi-player although not as religiously as others. The gameplay has been told to be VERY similar. At least we get out of our 1 liner- tin can of a character. "Hey master chief, we should stop the covenant.. but how?" "Watch this..." then cut to the carrier ship exploding- Yeah, exciting stuff. Now we get to play as a marine- one of those dispensible fodder bags that we've seen in the other games. In the first one, if he had a gun you'd feel happy slamming him in the back of the head for it- now don't lie. That's right, guilt comes full-round. Apart from Srgt. Johnson there never has been any other identifiable marine. I guess that's kinda cool-.

But enough about that junk- let's move onto some major selling factors- voice actors. Like putting a bikini clad babe on the front of a frat boy keg, this shoots up appeal for people who generally have their foot dipped in the lake of sci-fi. It's almost enough to make anyone who has seen firefly weak kneed. But just like the frat boy keg you're still just buying piss tasting keg beer- at a premium cost. We could then turn to the story mode- something different from the halo series but as mentioned it runs up a ten hour playtime! Ouch.. For a $60 cost that's handing out $6 an hour. But wait you say- there's more to it than single-player! I guess- firefight seems neat, even without a matchmaking system. It could be fun on LAN games. Not forgetting to mention that it will come with all available maps for the halo 3 multiplayer- yes finally.. All those MSpoint map packs that I just never bothered downloading because well.. I could never justify it.

But now, I'm left with a sour taste in my mouth. I'm not shelling out $60 for a game that well.. Is more of an *expansion* pack for halo 3. I can't really convince myself to go through with it- so internet chime in on your own opinions.

TL;DR- Should I buy Halo ODST?

I just bought it (well, I wouldn't of bought it sooner unless I lived in france :| ), and so far it seems ok.
Firefight is fun with a friend. and campaign is ok.
If I can get at least an hour of gameplay for every ($£) I payed for it, it'll be worth it to me.
but Only YOU can make the choice to buy it or not.
it hasn't been out long enough for me to form an opinion strong enough to tell other to buy it or not.

Rent it. My last installment of Halo was back in the Halo 2 days. It's not a bad game. In fact, the AI has been improved in some areas. However, I would recommend a rental rather then buying it initially. It's never a good idea to buy a game in this market without trying it first.

Too true, but then the cost of the games includes the rent cost aswell. Essentially I'm then shelling $70 for the same game, of course, this could also net me an increase of $50 is the game is utter garbage. But we're all successful risk takers arn't we? Back in the day- we'd always rent games from the stores based solely on cartridge art. I guess, modernized this is my idea of *trying* the game first.

Am I the only one that thought that this game was better than halo 3 itself?

In short I loved it.
But -what- made you like it more than halo 3?
