Very much so, but you wont find much love for the original game on these forums for some reason. Not quite sure why, but every time I've seen the game come up it's often hated on these forums in particular, Yahtzee's less-than-stellar opinion on the game certainly didn't help either.
Don't understand it myself, I rather enjoyed the combat! Timing based combat system with multuple fighting stances and several highly customizable magical abilities, not to mention the neat 'potion' mechanic where too many potions had the risk of killing you and yet on the harder difficulties they'd often become essential in the heat of battle, forcing you to make snap decisions on whether to take a potion that'll increase your combat skills now, or hold off for a healing drink later. Certainly more interesting than Diablo for example, a game paradoxically praised for it's combat.
And while the story took some time to build up once it finally got moving it was a damned great ride! This is called the rising action, it's a typical narrative trick to steadily ramp up the pace of the story as it builds towards a dramatic climax. That so many gamers lose attention after ten seconds without an explosion disappoints me! But condescending self-superiority aside, I love how seemingly unimportant decisions made early in the game can come back to have major consequences later on. The setting and characters, especially if you've read some of the books the game is based on as I have, are intriguing as well. Certainly not your typical witches and wizards fantasy!
Loved it!
The Witcher 2 is probably my most anticipated game right now. Everything I've seen and heard about it indicates it has the potential to not just be better than the first game, but something genuinely special! I honestly can't wait! This is the first time in... hell, years, where I'm looking forward to another companies rpg moreso than that of Bioware.
