For those who don't know the Mana bar is a new bar Yathzee and his friends are developing set to due open in late March. The bar specializes in video games to entertain guests with a variety of drinks too.

Now I personally don't appeal to this kinda idea. To me there are some things that just don't mix. I enjoy video games as much as the next guy but i don't know if you can combine that with nightlife. It just seems they are really trying to add a nerdy feel to this and it just seems kinda weird. Cool me a douche if you may, but I view bars and clubs as an area of nightlife in which you binge, dance, hit on women, and go wild. Adding video games to the mix just seems like adding water to oil.

I think it's supposed to be more of a bar than a dance club. more a quiet night with friends dancing very close to strangers and hooking up with someone then barfing in a bin claiming it was the best night you'll ever have before passing out and stumbling home without pants. Or am I just going of topic.

It seems rather... out of place, but it could work. You know, if you want to take a break from dancing for a bit and have a session of Street Fighter or Guitar Hero.

It's not a dance club. A dance club with video games would be interesting (Dance Dance Revolution, anybody?), but that's not what Yahtzee and co. are aiming for. They want to make it a chill place where people can go for a few drinks or play a few rounds of Call of Duty.

Also, why am I getting the image that you're one of those guys who pops his shirt collar and gets fake tans? Wait, "binge" and "hit on women". Got it.

It might turn into an Arcade with drinks. Getting games before they're released is a cool thing that I think their doing.

I thought you meant mana bars in games, to that it was yes I despise the mana bar but I guess it is needed to balance the game and actually make it fun

To Yahtzee's, I am indifferent because I live in the UK

Not that much of a douche, sorry. Sorry if I hit a rough spot, your response sounded a tad insecure.

If you'd like to flame me, you should focus on something that doesn't prove my point more. And yes, I'm very insecure about not making a habit of going to clubs, drinking far too much and disrespecting women.

EDIT: Wait, no. From some of the responses in this thread (and on the forum), it seems that gamers are an incredibly horny bunch.

So way just because if I were to go to a club, talk to a girl and if she shows some interest, it makes me a douche?

Not only do you stereotype people but you also don't seem to get out much.

Hell I want to go down under just to visit the place, I think it would be fun, sorta like going to a sports bar during a big game

I'll walk you through some basics here.

1) 'Hit-on' is not 'talk to'. Also, you don't generally go to a club to talk. I'm not sure what kinds of clubs you have where you're from, but the ones here tend to make talking impossible unless you've got a voice rivalling the loudness of a Boeing's engine. I guess you could know sign language; I'm sorry if that's the case, because I'd be pretty jealous of hooking up with someone at a club based on sign language exchanges.

2) You don't target me with personal insults until you've established that you've got the upper hand. Otherwise, you end up in a bit of an embarrassing situation. And yes, I do go out, though I tend not to go to clubs unless it's a friend's birthday (otherwise, I go to a pub).

Unrelated to that brouhaha; does anybody know if the Mana Bar will be serving food or that sort? Because, as I'm sure people have already noted, the release of Portal 2 will provide a very good opportunity to sell cakes.

I have to admit, I'm pretty much with Jimmer on this one.

If I want to play games with friends who live a reasonable distance from my place, I invite them over, they buy beers from the supermarket, we game, I cook. Mr Croshaw and friends are relying on some sort of incentive to do much the same thing, out in a less controllable public space (where for instance, the music isn't always to your preferences) and to charge (more) for it.

In a way this idea has come too late, back in the days of the N64 split screen multiplayer was an essential part of almost any game. Now everyone's focusing on online, or possibly system link. If you want to challenge some friends to some 360-based realistic racing you'll need a console and TV each for Forza III.

(As a personal anecdote on the N64-era thing, that was when I was a teenager at school, and a games shop near us had console set up on meters - £1 for 15 minutes. They made a mint from people playing GoldenEye in groups before catching the bus home. Sadly, teenagers can't hang out in bars and people old enough are usually set free by car driving.)

Ultimately, I suspect the Mana Bar will live and die on the bar itself, if the gaming means to be anything more than a sideshow I'll expect to see a lot more of Yahtzee plugging himself on the internet.

This is the appeal. As I see it, its more meant for people that don't necessarily want to go binging and clubbing, but want a social, more mature kind of arcade. Which I would totally go to.

This man basically said what I meant to say, but in better terms. I mean I don't get off where people start calling me a "collar popper." I still enjoy video games with my bros but doing it at a social place seems kinda weird.

It's a gaming bar, right? A place where I can get drunk while talking about CoD, Halo and all the other mainstream franchises people hate?

It's got HUGE potential.
