I got in to the closed beta for this game and it starts next week. So i was wondering if anyone on The Escapist was also interested in this tile and had gotten in to the beta?
I'm not in the beta, but it's basically a TF2 clone with a Batman theme, isn't it? If so, I'd love to pick it up if it gets released as a budget title, especially since it's being developed by Monolith, which has been one of my favorite developers since I was 12. As a full priced, AAA game, on the other hand? I'll stick to TF2, unless they do a really good job of differentiating it and it turns out to be absolutely awesome.lord waffles of taco said:I got in to the closed beta for this game and it starts next week. I think the real question here is "why not?" Monolith is developing this; they've been known to take some pretty off the wall ideas and deliver in the past. They've been focusing on horror since they released F.E.A.R., but their roots are in balls to the walls arcade style first person shooters, so if anyone can pull this off, it's Monolith.Kaleion said:I'm not a big fan of shooters that aren't TimeSplitters so I don't really care for this game much, I mean I guess it looks fine but I don't get why they had to go and make a Batman themed shooter, I really really don't get why we need a Batman themed shooter.
Well I'm not really familiar with Monolith's work so I found it really hard to care, well I guess it must be kinda like my bias towards TimeSplitters, so if you would enlighten my ignorance by mentioning some of Monoliths's greatest works so I try them out and decide for myself to care for this game good sire, BTW I don't really care for graphics so even if they are really old I won't mind.Owyn_Merrilin said:I think the real question here is "why not?" The ones I've actually played are Shogo: Mobile Armor Division, and F.E.A.R.. Some other games from them you might have heard of are Blood and, especially, No One Lives Forever. They also made a Tron game that was supposed to be pretty good back around 2004. Shogo in particular had really good multiplayer; it was just basic deathmatch, but I've never played a game with movement mechanics quite like it. There was a pretty cool interplay between shooting straight and dodging everything that came your way. It also had excellent single player, doing a lot of what Half Life gets credit for a couple of months before Half Life was released. I think it's $5.99 on GoG if you want to give it a shot; be warned, though -- the multiplayer pretty much died around 2008. The singleplayer is still just as awesome as ever, though.Kaleion said:Well I'm not really familiar with Monolith's work so I found it really hard to care, well I guess it must be kinda like my bias towards TimeSplitters, so if you would enlighten my ignorance by mentioning some of Monoliths's greatest works so I try them out and decide for myself to care for this game good sire, BTW I don't really care for graphics so even if they are really old I won't mind.Owyn_Merrilin said:I think the real question here is "why not?" OK then I'll be on the lookout for those, especially the TRON one, since I like TRON but I guess I'll try first the ones I can find at gog.com, I guess I have nothing to lose other than boredom probably.Owyn_Merrilin said:The ones I've actually played are Shogo: Mobile Armor Division, and F.E.A.R.. No One Lives Forever is probably their biggest hit, F.E.A.R. aside. I haven't played it (the PC version is completely out of print, and while I did manage to randomly find a copy of the PS2 port in a Gamestop bargain bin, I haven't had a chance to play it yet), but it's a perfect example of Monolith taking a weird idea and making a good game. Look up some reviews; it's a pretty unique game.
