i ask this mainly because i'm curious of what gamers really think about and yes i understand there made to be acessable for people that dont play games but have to think are motion controls increase the value of our games and i can almost see a future (for wii and ps3 move) with shooters but so far having motion controls in game have made me wanna feed the disk to my shredder which is mostly the camara (witch could be fixed with an extra joystick)and terrible the aiming problem i dont see any possible solution for at the moment(whitch is sort of ironic since the whole point of motion controls were to let you aim your gun". I'm starting to think that this isn't the right way to introduce gaming to people for example my niece got an ps3 with move (as her parents sold the good controller second hand thinking she wouldn't touch it) for her birthday and after 5 minutes she asked me if there were a better controller cause she thought the move sucked donkey balloons (balloons wasnt the exact term she used). right there she was perfect candidate to get into gaming and motion controls fudged it up and even if she did liked it shed be falling directly into the 'n00b catergory' whenever she tried black ops.Thats like geting a job saying "3 hours of desk work per day" but then you spend the rest of the day cleaning toilets and then thinking "this wasnt in the job diskription" and guess what happens next and this true in gaming aswell they quit.and the kinect the only good i see for it is sports games witch make much sense cause i'd rather just play a sport and controlling menus with my hands (whitch is awesome).this is mostly just my opinion so tell me what you think are they gamings future or is it gonna be the next 'virtual boy' or 'power glove'

In some areas yes.

As an example, Mario kart, I like how by turning the controller turns the kart/bike. Stuff like that will make the racing games more accessable instead of fumbling around on a controller or having to buy a specific steering wheel controller.

Yes they are good for gaming. Not good for the games you or I play probably but things like the Wii have expanded the market which brings in more money to the industry.

And who knows, if it sticks around another generation or two, it might end up being implemented really well in more games you & I can dig.

Maybe sooner: Children of Eden looks pretty cool.

Doesn't seem to be enough games that utilize it well to make it good or bad for the industry. It's just sort of there, slightly above gimmick status, but falling well short of necessary.

I don't think that motion controls will ever be anything more than a gimmick but I would love to be proved wrong.

I feel like I should paraphrase Yahtzee here. Motion controls are only good when they replicate the motion you have performed. Not when they're a glorified button press like with most Wii games.

they're heading in the right direction. i absolutely despised the Wii, and i snubbed the Kinect and the Move because of that hatred. but having actually played some games on Kinect, it's a pretty distinct improvement. however, i don't believe motion controls will ever make buttons obsolete.

They are good for very specific types of games (Golf and Bowling for example), but they are a terrible gimmick for most.

Somewhere down the line you'll be able to play a game by walking around and touching stuff instead of puching buttons on a chair. Motion controls, no matter where they are right now, are worth the money that's being pumped into them.

[EDIT]: Oh, my bad, you mean it like "are motion controls good for playing games with?" I thought you meant "are they good for gaming in general?"

Well, I've not played a motion-controlled game that I thought was better for simply having motion-controls. I've also never said - of any game - that motion control made something worth playing. I mean, the Wii is cool and all that - and Wii sports is fun - but it's not perfect. Motion controls aren't really there yet.

I prefer a controller.

Without some kind of force feedback no, utterly useless gimic.

Even Nintendo are (slowly) moving away from motion controls.

Yes and no. While there are games for which motion controls add to the experience, for the most part I feel they're unnecessary.

Also, paragraph breaks are your friend.

Please, for the love of god, use grammar.
And motion controls are a waste of time. If we want people to join gamers, we need to let them have the full experience instead of dimming it down to motion controls, which completely ruin the immersion. And isn't immersion one of the main unique traits of gaming?

Short answer: no.
Long answer: Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo...

err, no, because they actually take AWAY immersion. If you open a door in real life, do you have to think about the actions to take e.g. raising hand, gripping door knob, turning it, pulling the door to you, etc.? No, you just do the "open door" action. Likewise on a controller you just press whatever button is the 'action' button, and probably do it without thinking if you've played the game a little before.

Motion controls are only useful for games designed for it. E.g. darts minigames.

All they're good for is generating shovelware, making half-decent games worse, and throwing immersion out the fucking window.

So no, not really.

No. As red, motion controls are not a good plan for gaming, though are a fantastic plan as a gimmick to make money off of simpletons.

Motion controls are good when done right. The wii adds motion controls to a (relatively) standard controller as does the ps3. The xbox? ok, so its a "full body" motion control but with NO possibility of a "trigger" button or similar, so that one I rate as pure gimmick.

Basically the wii motion plus addon solves the most of it for the wii. IMO that is the way to go. I reckon it will be irrelavent to a lot of games though.

Not in the incarnation they are in at the moment. They could work for say sword games, but you would need virtual feedback and total precision. Possibly the same with gun games.
I personally don't think I'll care until A, they have good thought control, b, they have fully accurate motion control with feedback, or C they have a fully virtual world (i.e. people can enter virtual reality).

I dunno, I'd find waving my hands in front of my face incredibly distracting when I'm trying to play a game. The controller relies on muscle memory. You know where all the buttons are, so you don't need to think about what you're pressing or trying to remember gestures.

Besides, if I wanted to walk around and touch stuff I'd just go outside.
