Poll: Are we playing nerds??

I have added a poll just out of curiousity.
The intro to this thread is a bit long and if these issues have been discussed before Im sorry.

For many years me and my best friend have had an ongoing arguement: Is Virgil, from Devil May Cry 3, cooler than Dante?? I personally think that Virgils silent malevolence is what makes him the better character and that Dante jumping around spouting lines like he is in a Bill & Ted movie makes him a bit of a loser, whom I want to kill after every cut scene. This arguement eventually evolved when i wrote an essay on World of Warcraft for university. Both alliance and horde think that the other side is immature and nerdy for picking either generic boring and safe humanoids or unrealistic cartoony monsters. What I really want to know is are we playing as the nerds in fantasy style games?? Games such as GTA try to make their characters as cool as possible and so while we play bad guys we will always be playing cool characters. So are good guys nerds then?? and if so do we really want to play as them??

Sorry bit long winded and not very concise but hope you get the general point.

Dante for me, I just think any man who fights against demons for a way of life and can still be very outgoing and loud wins, also I never played DMC 3 really so it was Dante or Nero and Nero is just a no go for me ...

I can see your point. My friend always argued that its impossible to call someone with a massive sword and kick ass moves a nerd. I guess Im just very easily annoyed. Even in games like RE5 I got annoyed at Chris saying thank you to Sheva and being such goodie, I prefered Wesker especially with the, "Seven minutes" line when you fight him the first time. Maybe I just prefer bad guys.

I saw that and screamed "Chris, ya fucking moron! WHY? Are you just begging to be thrown off a balcony?!?!?!?". I laughed when he got thrown off the balcony 5 seconds later.

Dante is cooler, but in 4 they pussied him down to make it seem that Nero is the new bad ass. He is not even close to being a bad ass. Vergil is a good rival for me and he is really fun to fight. So, I vote Dante, but say Vergil. That just about evens it out.

Honestly, whatever gamers do, they will probably be told they are nerds. Play a nerd or second stringer charter 'Man, you are playing as a loser'. Play a kick ass, demon slaying badass. Well its just transference, to distract you from the sad life you must have.

We simply cannot win.

Yeah i know its misleading. I wasnt sure wether to talk about the who issue of characters in games being a bit nerdy or jus the DMC thing but people seem to have stuck with the DMC so ill roll with it. Just like to add btw if you wana know why I think Virgil is badass in DMC3 then checkout the clip where he gets Beowulf. Dante fights that thing for like 20mins and then Virgil cuts it down in one slice, no effort. Btw I know this prob another forum thread but the coolest char ever is Shiva from Streets of Rage 2.
