I just wondered - what does the escapist community represent themselves - would you call yourself a geek, or a nerd, both or neither? If neither, what would you call yourself?

For definitions, they are all vague, but the ones I like are http://web.vee.net/stuff/geek-vs-nerd.html

I'm not really sure, probably a bit nerdy.

I was also told I was adorable, in a nerdy way before, so I go with that for that reason.
In case you're wondering no, I don't get complimented often so I'm taking this as a victory dammit.

What is the difference between a nerd and a geek?

I would call myself a follower of Thor. Or a gamer.

By common definitions, i'm more of a geek than a nerd. Hard science (math, geometry, physics) isn't really my thing, and i don't actually collect anything related to my favourite games - i do fan-art instead.

Well, I define myself as Ross. I don't think I could be a nerd/geek since I also like sports, possibly a gamer but I guess I'm not too serious about it. I'm like Mario in the sports games, just a bit of them all:p

Nerds are people like Bill Gates and Albert Einstein.
Geeks wear pointy ears to sci-fi conventions.
Dorks are basically Urkel.
I am a nerd.

I don't have a social label that is capable of defining me. I am better than that!.

I guess for the sake of completeness you could say, that I am cool.

I call myself a Geek more often than a Nerd.

Because Nerds are the academic ones of the two, right?

I'm not a nerd cause I'm not smart like Bill Gates or Albert Einstein, and I'm not a geek cause I don't wear pointy ears to sci-fi conventions (never been to one).

I guess I'm, uhm, a gamer? No idea, never tried to "class" myself before.

I have no interest in D+D, Star Wars/Trek or any other stereotypically geeky things so I don't think I'm one of those.

I consider myself intelligent, but not in the academic sense so I guess I'm not a nerd either.

I am socially capable, so I'm not really a dork.

To look at me you wouldn't think I am a geek or anything either: No glasses (a sad, but common stereotype), No gaming/TV/Film based clothing, Fairly muscular/in good shape due to regular gym-time.

Apart from that, only my computer (my desktop background, user pics etc.) and me regularly quoting things (usually Invader Zim) would hint at me being a geek in any way.

I'm partially a geek, due to my interest in sci-fi/fantasy stuff (Doctor Who, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings), and also an otaku, due to my love of the Japanese culture.

Same. Just sub Firefly for Doctor Who. ^_^
