Are you gonna (or have you)see the Tintin movie? I highly recommend it, though I did have a large nostalgia influence. I thought it was great, and really fun to watch. I'm mainly posting this because my friend and I were literally the only people in the theater we saw it in, which surprised me. The last time this happened to me was in the Scott Pilgrim movie (also great), and we all know how that turned out. I'm worried about the movie flopping in the box office despite being really good, so I was curious as to your thoughts.

There's nostalgia there for me (I grew up on the 90's cartoon, which as far as I know still hasn't had a home video release, along with the 90's Land of the Lost, which was passed over in favor of the 70's version when the Will Ferrel movie came out), but I'm really turned off by the way they've mixed 3d CG with character designs that were meant for 2D comic books; it's a new and terrifying corner of the uncanny valley. The characters who aren't from Hesse's comics don't seem to be as creepy, which suggests that it really is the weird mix of 2D character designs with 3D characters. The sad thing is, if traditional animation weren't still unfashionable, this could have been one of the best animated works aimed at an older audience to ever come out of the west.

Im planning on seeing it-while i only sparingly saw the 90's cartoon, i ended up getting alot of the english-translated comic book's (and these were like the full-on hard cover 90 page books) and devoured them endlessly. Until recently I am sad to say that i had forgotten about the Tintin universe, but looking back now i see where alot of my interest in puzzle/crime solving and interest in the concepts of justice and law slowly began to evolve. That being said, the 3D effect looks alright, but as above poster pointed out...the Uncanny Valley effect may be in full force. That really worries me. At this point however, i'll still see it, just to see Tintin one more time. Kudo's to Spielburg for attempting to bring in a non-american "action-adventure" animated film to the mainstream. Let's hope it works!

Will wait for the French language dub. Can't stand translations that change character names!

It's just a movie by this newbie Spielberg guy, based upon this obscure Belgian comic that has sold a mere 200 million copies in fifty-something languages.

That worried me a lot too, and the trailers made the animation look awful, but the movie pulls it off really well (in my opinion of course).

Jebus, I had a miniature adventure trying to find a cinema where the film was showing in English AND in 3D (I live in Hong Kong). After finding out that the theater I was running to only had the Chinese-dubbed version of the film, I had to take an expensive subway ride to a theater at the airport with only an hour of time left before the film starts.
It was worth it. The film was great, I loved the references to many of the Tintin books and that continuous action shot at one part of the film was genius. The only downside was that the 3D glasses made everything look a bit too dark.

I saw it a couple of weeks ago. It's ended in our cinema now, but I would see it again if I could.
I went to see it with my friend who grew up with all of the Tintin stuff. It holds up pretty well to the lore, and there isn't even much racism. The animation is quite nice, and there's no way in hell the classic animation would hold up for a full length film these days.

Not interested. Tintin only sounds vaguely familiar and doesn't seem like my kind of movie.

I plan on seeing it, but I won't be able to til January. I'm sure it will come to my theater here in my hometown...but the theater here is a piece of shit, so I'm going to wait til I go back to my college town so I can go to their classier and cleaner theater.

Saw it a couple days ago for my brothers birthday. The short of it: I frellin' loved it. It has some of the best action sequences I have seen in a long while, and the animation is actually pretty top notch. Highly recommended.
