The Nat-Geo show "Dooms-Day Preppers" [http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/channel/doomsday-preppers/] just premiered tonight. It's about people furiously preparing for different apocalyptic scenarios, then a panel of experts grade them and give them suggestions for what they could improve.

Along with the show, 'Jericho'; it always makes me want to build a bunker so I can fight off the hoards of Ghouls and bandits. o_O I find myself making models of houses that are more like fortresses than a comfortable abode.

Question is, are you ready for a doomsday of epic proportions??

I am not, I am not prepared at all. I would have to survive off ramen and bring water and kibble for my dog. We would not make it very far. Haha. Dramatization of my dog and I as we travel the wastes

I have a shotgun, a few hundred shells, a handgun, over a hundred rounds, multivitamins, and some load-bearing gear. I'd say I'm somewhat prepared, since I could do with more survival gear.

Nope, i'm pretty much screwed. If by some miracle I managed to survive the initial strike of whatever causes this hypothetical apocalypse I have about 7 cans of soup and some other stuff so at best I could survive a few days. Yeah, I don't like my chances.

A rifle might help, you have kinda limited range on the weapons.
It's next on the list, but in the meantime I've got about a hundred rifled slugs to give me a bit more range than usual.

But . . .what about my hobby!?! If we all did that, what would I do with my Thursdays????
Aw, damn. *Packs super-villan gear away*

OT: Being fairly rational about the whole thing, I think I might last long enough to say "Aw, crap" before I was dead in any general apocalypse.

I'm hoping when The Awakening comes, I'll get turned into a Drake instead of...I dunno, a ghoul.
(Orks and Trolls will have it rough for a good long time, but they'll eventually break even).

Besides, Dunkelzhan popped up over a week ago....right?

....Damn. Wrong (mis)interpretation of the Mayan calendar from a work of fiction.

But whatever. I can't wait for the doomsday cultists to reassign their date after it comes and the world is still right where they left it the previous day...this is a big banner year for that kind of crap.

Yes, I already have my long term plan worked out.

Expose myself to a little bit of radiation, start cutting and mutilating my face and jamming bits of metal into the flesh, file down my teeth into sharp points, collect a whole bunch of sharp swords and axes and other weapons and begin my new life as a post apocalyptic equivilant to the cannibalistic Firefly Reavers.
Planning? Buying weapons? Trying to restart society and democracy? Irrelevent, victory shall come to the radioactive cannibal hordes that shall be lead by me. If nothing else, my life would be much simpler.
So yes, in the event of total nuclear holocaust I'm just going to give up and embrace my new life as a radioactive cannibal.

I'll just let other people spend the time and money to prepare for the end. In the unlikely event of a worldwide collapse of civilization, I will use my powers of oration to band together other unprepared people and convince them to take supplies from the preppers by force - they can't kill us all! During these raids I will make like Magneto and stay in the rear while the pawns attack first. Any causalities we take only means more food and supplies for the survivors.

P.S. Thanks for making me aware of this show. I rarely watch TV but this looks like something I would enjoy watching!

No problem-o, that sounds like a mighty fine plan. I'd befriend a prepper all the while, not contributing anything to them. And if they became angry, I'd boot them out. (They, of course, would be the hippy variant and not the kind that make gun stores look poorly stocked)

I'm not prepared because it's not going to happen :D

Now, if it's a Lordi style "Arockalypse" then I've been ready for that for quite some time

Nope, I'd be shattered if I lost this nice internet thingy and didn't have new games and my friends where dead and all that.

In reality, I'd probably die from radiation or something and, possibly, become a ghoul

Nah, I'm pretty much toast.

I don't have nearly as many supplies/skills to survive out here without help. If I find some resourceful country folk who can actually go out in -40 degree weather and survive pitching a camp in that weather; I might have a chance.

*facepalm* Damn you Redlin, that video made me laugh! :D

For me...well first I need two dual wield desert eagles, a katana, ammo and basically food/water or possibly a tent.

I really need to get prepared.

if it happens that is.

What exactly is preparation for the apocalypse, a blindfold and a cigarette? When it comes, we're gonna die.

Unless I can get into a government shelter (which might be possible - I have a science background), I'm screwed in any apocalypse scenario. Raiders/zombies would be eating my brains (delicious brains) within days of an apocalypse. If I couldn't get into a fallout-style shelter or military protection, I'd plug in that generator, seal my door with tape and check myself out of the life game. Because it'd be better than starving or getting my ribs kicked in by raiders.

I got a flail, a rifle, an oscillating fan, a knife, duck tape, a massive stockpile of water and ramen, and a pet cat named Lulu. Yeah I'm prepared.
