Well well, it seems only after a week after the 'Blackface' fiasco, The world is up in arms against Australia again, after a novelty 'Dwarf Race' was held at a Victorian race meet.

I guess I'm going to ask the same thing I did last time: Is there really anything wrong with this? Everybody is having fun, the 'jockeys' get paid (they're all actors), and nobody got hurt (except for that one spill).

Are we really so sensitive that even the smallest instance of imperfect treatment of a minority is a reason to complain?

I laughed the first time i saw that.

They interviewed one of the "Jockeys" who just said that it was fun at it wasnt a big deal.

Even the creator of the race said noone has complained about it to them yet, so its just harmless fun.

No there isn't anything wrong with it. It's just people having harmless fun. If people are offended at this they need a spoon full of cement.

Unbelievable...

Who the hell is stupid enough to question the home of Mad Max and Kangaroos?! I think it's all racist against austrailians.

Whew! Your title scared me. I thought for a moment the Aussies had finally made their bid for world conquest and unleashed their legions of sedan-sized spiders, vicious snakes, and mildly agitated soccer players upon us.

It was amusing and all those dwarves knew it was going on TV and got paid and they're not in any pain or emotional stress right now because of this. They should just forget about it and move on.

I fear the Magpies more.

As for the issue. I think people have as much a right to be offended as people do to pull silly things like in that video.

If they enjoyed themselves who cares. And there is NO bid for world domination going on ok. Anyway we still haven't got the kangaroos to combat effectiveness yet.

I can't believe people can get so worked up about jokes. Maybe people find being offended a good way to kill time.

If they're trying to report this event sensitively then they probably shouldn't have sped up the video, which just made the little people look charmingly elven and even more hilarious.

Racing as vital, modern and innovative? Racing is one of the oldest sports, no one really needs it, and I'd say that the only racing innovation I've seen is the change of vehicles. Which is the same as in this case. Anyway I think people are too sensitive, though I do understand that bit about 'vertically challenged' people being ridiculed. But all this would do would be give the insulters another insult. And that, is not saying much.

I saw this on telly last night.

The problem is that people feel an emptiness in their lives that they replace with petty minded condemnations, bigotry under the guise of caring. Most of the "dwarves" have a lucrative career, but die a lot earlier. Similar to the "giants" as well.
But they're airquotes different /airquotes, so we must look after them.
No, if they're being repressed or opresssed, they'll let you know. Kenny Baker and Warwick Davis have an acting career most of us could only dream of with our hideous height.

I'm a pretty chunky dude and, honestly, I wouldn't mind a chunky dude race. Hell, I think it would draw some decent income for the short time it would be operating. Fatlympics, anyone?

Haha, no... our real dangerous spiders are much smaller then that :)

I'm actually surprised at the recent spate of political correctness. it's usually not THIS bad. heck, Good News Week has been happily insulting basically everything and everyone with getting ripped a new one by the media...

Yep...

As long as no-one is hurt emotionally (Excluding that "You are hurting their reputation and ability to live!), who cares?

In fact, I thought it was one of those Australian Sterotypes to be able to make fun of yourself...

I saw it
What I'm going to say is that I, nor anyone I've talked to, has cared about it
Even a little bit
And I'm just down the road (give or take an hour...) from it, so it made the paper
It was on page 8, or 9...
People just over react at things...

Slippery slope you're treading on here, mate. You should be more cautious before you say something like this these days...
