First off, I'd like to apologise in advance if this thread has been done before. But I couldn't find it.

Now, I've seen this kind of thing at work a couple of times and it still something I'm not quite okay with. Is it just me, or is having a child that young with bits of metal hanging from their heads a bit unpleasant? I mean, we're not just talking studs here, I've seen proper dangly earrings that even Pat Butcher would find a bit flashy. And it seems to be a certain type of parent with these kids too. I think you can guess, track suits, cheap bling, in need of a good wash...

So, am I on my own here? Or are there other people who want to say something but dare not?

Loads of young people have earrings nowadays.

I dunno why. I don't really see any appeal in earrings at all.

I gotta agree with you man. Nice Avatar by the way, been a long time since I've seen Harry!

On topic: Who is to say the baby wants their ear pierced? Kind of predetermines what the baby will like without giving the kid any choice later in life. I enjoy playing the guitar and would love if my kid picked up the guitar when I have one, but I'm not going to strap one on early and make the decision for it.

I've seen studs on babies before, I've never agreed with that. I've never sen the dangly ones though.... that's just weird. The sort of kid who's wearing make-up at age 10

I don't know man. I know a lot of parents of young girls that get their ears pierced. I don't really see anything wrong with it. The first time I see a grill on a baby though I'm kidnapping it for it's own benefit.

There's a difference between a baby that has pierced ears and a child, or a teen who does. The baby had no say in the matter, on the basis that they cannot talk. A child or a teen however, is more aware and can say "yes" or "no". It comes down to what the individual getting the piercing wants. I can't say I agree with parents deciding that for their child whether they say yay or nay.

In addition, I'd suggest you remove the third poll option. It's not a sentiment appreciated here.

I hardly know what to say. I've never seen a baby with earrings, but it sure sounds weird...

Babies should not get there ears pierced, as there not old enough to say if they would like there ears pierced or not.

Like others have said the baby should have a say in whether or not to get pierced ears. It sort of implies a lack of respect between the parent(s) who wanted it done and child.

Although it's probably not the best thing to do to a child it does help normal people to identify the parent as a complete moron who should be avoided.

When the child in question is younger than, say, 12, it just looks a little odd. I feel the child needs to be old enough to fully be able to understand the idea and realise what they are doing. At least it isn't as permanent or noticeable as tattoos.

I had tiny little star studs in my ears aged 6/7.

They are/were fine, and I wanted them done. I did not look like some sort of disgusting blingin' chav.
6/7 isn't a baby in my mind. This a thread based around kids who aren't even out of nappies and cannot speak their own views about getting them. A kid who has pierced ears and wanted them is fine in my opinion.

Its just trashy mothers turning their children into fashion accessories, which is not on.
