So i just saw that the new Baldur's Gate will have some DLC, but it seems that the original content will not be touched by these mystical things called DLC.

Here is the source where I found it :
!:WARNING:! This is a French web site !:WARNING:!

http://www.jeuxvideo.fr/jeux/baldur-s-gate-enhanced-edition/baldur-gate-enhanced-edition-dlc-premier-plan-actu-499544.html

I think this could be good (COULD BE) if it is handled right, a bit like the good New Vegas DLC's witch added some nice content and side story, but in the case of this game, there is a tonne of fan made content with some very high quality work in it for free :GASP:

So what are you thoughts on this?

Edit: Found a link in english

I think they are taking a shotgun to their nads.
People are already questioning the reason to buy this HD remake when there are mods that seem to do the same, and as you said there is also great community content, and now the devs extra content will not even be in the package... hell of an incentive there.

If they have half a brain behind this project they will offer a good full package or it will go horribly wrong, and then they will turn around and say people don't want games like these anymore...
No we just don't want to be fucking hustled.

cash grab or not, I dont care Ill still buy it and support anything to do with this classic game. if the finances go in some small way to making the 2nd installment then I have no care in the world not to employ DLC into the game.

They said they planned on supporting the game after release with DLC. That's it. I think people are flipping out because they didn't fully read something.

Well that would be nice, looks like they are planing using DLC like the ones in New Vegas where you release some after the release of the game to "enhance" the experience, but i think what people are afraid of is the Day 1 DLC with very nice plot points in it and other stuff.

Captcha: Wich on is the smallest? Hmm id say Jupiter is.

I'm gonna say exactly what I posted on the news article about this.

I love the Baldur's gate games and more of them is only a good thing
BUT
DLC containing new characters and quests. And beamdog have been promoting new characters and quests ever since this was announced. Sounds like the new stuff could be mostly (if not all) DLC and the base game might be just Baldur's gate in HD with little or no new content.
Its still gonna be one of the best games released this year, but I don't think I'll be buying it.

All in all though, I still haven't seen everything the BG games have to offer so I don't think I need to even buy this, but I will reserve final judgement until I get a review from a fan of the old games.

Ok I can guarantee you that's not how it will work. I've had his twitter bookmarked since I'm not making one and after how long I've been reading it I can assure you that's not it at all. The added content they were talking about being in the Enhanced Edition will not be DLC by any means. Whatever they have talked about being added in the EE will be there. He mentioned they will be making DLC for the game after release which won't have anything to do with the added content.

I know I'm probably sounding like a fanboy by now but I just dislike misinformation. Hence when this website posted that Bioware had something to do with it I took a few hours of my time to go tell every poster that they had absolutely nothing to do with it since they didn't own any of the rights to it. I'm just trying to clear things up here.

No problem. Also there's a ton of things that Trent Oster has said that people haven't reported on so for more information on the BG:EE bookmark his twitter and check every day or so.
https://twitter.com/#!/TrentOster
For example here's a small list of things he's said that people have glossed over.
-He wanted to do enhanced editions of every Infinity Engine game
-He offered to do remakes of KOTOR and basically most of Origin Systems work.
-He is forming a team specifically to make more isometric RPGs for the future.
-He wants to make BG3 after doing the Enhanced Editions of BG1&2

Like I said there's a lot people haven't talked about so the best place for info is the source.

Thanks for the info and do you know the name studio working on it?
I really hope he will be able to do all the things he's planing there, i would REALLY love a remake of KOTOR2 with ALL the content in it (witch works on my PC).

Last time i played it, with the content restore mod thing, played for a long time did all the planets but then the crashed when i was going to leave the jungle moon and most despicable of all things, destroyed my precious saved games DX

Well the problem is he offered to do the remakes of KOTOR and LucasArts turned him down. Granted if this is successful he might have a better chance of doing it.

To answer your question the studio doing these remakes is a branch of Beamdog called Overhaul Games. They are the same people who ported MDK2 to the Wii and did MDK2HD. Also I hope he can do all of those things too. Just hoping this works out for them.

I don't see the point in these remakes.

Everything he's offering is already offered by mods.

If there was something to make the first game more engaging, or make the graphics fully 3D ala Dragon Age I could see the point in the remakes, or voice ALL the characters or make it more cinematic, but no, just seems like a big cash grab at the moment.

Well the thing with the HD re-release i think is more for compatibility issues than anything else, since allot of players barely know how to install a program and don't want to bother with complicated stuff.

And it may be true that what you say about the mods but maybe they will put even more stuff in it than that (i hope, i reaaaaaaly hope so), but we will have to wait and see what happens.

The thing with the new BG release is that, as far as I am aware, it is not being done by a big studio, it's being done by devs that want to see the glory of BG (still to this day, my favourite game series) being brought into line with modern technology all the while keeping the charisma of the old games. I will try to skirt the forum rules here without going over, but this is one set of games coming out that I WILL hand over my money for and will be happy to do so.

I'll add too, because this is a re-release of a classic game, day 1 DLC or "on-disk DLC" wont fly with this game because if they restrict things enough, people will just not buy it as they still have the originals and are really not missing out on much.

Pretty much. Especially since Beamdog is founded by ex-Bioware people who worked on the old games. They are also doing them because they want to do BG3 and need some proof that it will sell to Atari/Hasbro so they will greenlight it.

Ok as long as the entire game with the Sword Coast expansion are included in the base package I'm great with it. That will be well worth whatever money they will be asking for it. As for the DLC, as long as it's something NEW and something that wasn't included in BG or the expansion then I think that selling it as DLC is fine.

Well then good news for you that's exactly what's happening. Also when BG2:EE happens they will include the expansion as well.
