I play guitar but you honestly cant have one without the other in my opinion. A memorable solo makes a song but so does a memorable bassline.

Im going to go for guitar though just because I play one.

And Welcome to the Escapist!

I agree but I play bass so I was inclined to pick bass.

I play bass, so I like the bass.
Guitar is harder to play initially, I think, but I'd say both are equally hard to master.
Listen to any good bassist and you'll hear stuff that'll blow your mind, just like good guitarist.

Both can be hard to play, both can be easy to get the basics of. Each sound so different it's hard to say what sounds best. Bass can do some heavy solos, guitar has some insane shreds. Neither is more important, without bass the music wouldn't have as much depth of tone, without guitar there would be a lack of rhythm.

I play guitar because I like the solos more, personally.

But I remain neutral on which is actually better.

That body has been there for a few weeks now..surely someone should go check who it is. You know, inform relatives, arrange to have it removed. It could be what's attracting all the trolls..

I play neither so that's me being vaguely unbiased.

I like both equally
Guitars make nicer sounds but the Bass builds up a backing tune.
Basslines can be just as memorable as Guitar solos.
Guitarists get more attention but bassists generally look cooler and get to go mental on stage.

Any idiot can pick up a guitar and learn some chords, there's enough guitarists in the world. Also, and I've said this before, I've gotten way more girls by playing bass than guitar. You can play some dumb three chord song to a chick like she's probably heard a million times before, or you can blow her mind with some good bass technique. When I'm playing bass, people stop and look, like "how are you making those sounds?".

I like bass. I'm a groovy guy.

Bass can also have some neat challenges to offer up if you set it on Expert. Is it harder than guitar? Depends on your skillset.

I can't decide, because i play both. I love guitar solos, but there are so many. If you hear a bass solo in a song, even an easy one, you will remember it far better.

well i imagine a Guitarist who was as good as you could probly get the same number of girls by doing some real shredding.

The thing is, you're comparing someone who has really devoted time to learning the Bass to someone who has learned a few chords on a Guitar. If you're that good at Bass, nice one you! It's always good to see some more Bassists around. However, a Guitarist who has spent as much time on Guitar as you seem to have on Bass then they will also be able to produced sounds that wow other people.

Well, what I mean is you can just do some double hand tapping crap on guitar with some distortion on and make it sound like you're playing faster than Buckethead, and it's easy as hell. On guitar, it's easier to fake it if you're not that good. There's not as much wiggle room with bass, but that's just my opinion.
