Now it seems everyone loves Bastion's soundtrack, where composer Darren Korb mixed acoustic western frontier and Eastern sounds with extremely electronic drums. But it got me a-thinking, which do you prefer? The Eastern or the Western songs?

A good example of one of the western songs:

Personally I lean more towards the western songs, I've always been fairly into the sound of a good resonator guitar and harmonica and such, a good example being Slinger's Song. Also I think the use of Spike in a Rail is perfect, walking along the rail tracks with the rifle, and the Slinger's Song when you get the Dueling Pistols.

So please, tell me what you think.

Frankly,I enjoy the soundtrack as a whole, and the western songs do stick to me a bit more, however songs like "The Bottom Feeders" and "Faith of Jevel" are pretty soothing in and of themselves.

my two-cents anyway.

Bastion's soundtrack is one of my all-time favorites BECAUSE it's so varied. If it wasn't, I wouldn't have bought it, and it wouldn't have reached my most-played list for six months running.

I appreciate both, but I would favor the Eastern stuff more, especially the 2nd track posted. I dunno why, the whole soundtrack is great, but that indian sounding track is the most recognisable for me, when that pipes up during the game, you know shit just got real :D. I like the heavy distorted drums especially.

Maybe it's because I'm not a big fan of that style of western music in general... for me, the western tracks should have been much more dramatic... less redneck, more Ennio Morricone. I think that style would fit the game perfectly, wheras I get the feeling that Bastion gels together as a whole because of the extremely high quality and attention to detail, not necesserily because the music is perfect for the game... I mean that game would be great with any music, that music would be great with any game - but I think that the Eastern music is more dramatic and fitting with the storyline, and more traditional western music might have achieved the same thing... Bastion reminds me of some eastern market, or a Mexican village, that sort of hot, smelly setting where farm animals spit at you. That's the vibe I get at least.

The entire soundtrack is goddamn brilliant, and its variety in influences contributes to this.
I can't really choose which I prefer, because it's sooooo good.
captcha: good for nothing. Well, now I'm offended.
