As some might be aware, I'm a bat-family fan, not a Batman fan, and most notably I'm a fan of the character of Robin. Since there have been five Robins though, here's my question. Which Robin should have their own stand-alone movie? Chronologically, Grayson should but he was always Batman's wonder boy until he became Nightwing, so maybe something a bit more independent.

For those that don't know, quick read outs:

Dick Grayson:
Grayson is the Robin everyone thinks of first. He was the first Robin, and the most popular in several non-comic continuities. Yes, he was the "HOLY CATCHPHRASE BATMAN!" kid but he was also the Teen Titan's leader. He is the most common and tends to have the most fluctuating personality as a character, but all agree he's the fun loving Robin.

Jason Todd:
Jason was a massive tone shift from Grayson, and not many fans liked him until his retcon in 2000. Jason Todd was Juvenile Delinquent who met Batman by stealing the rims off the Batmobile. Batman took Jason under his wing to train him to be more good, rather than live the street rat life. Jason is one of the more cold of the Robins, hot headed and Rambo-like in nature. He was killed by the Joker in 1988's "A Death in the Family" and his death is marked as one of Batman's greatest failures.

Tim Drake:
Tim Drake started off as the happiest of the Robins, but eventually his father was murdered by "Captain Boomerang" who was trying to live up to his old reputation. Some hate this, some don't mind. What goes on in Tim's head is fascinating however, because for once we see the mind of a Robin work and tweak, and somehow duplicate the mind of Batman, which is a scary though. During Bruce's disappearance in 2008 and 2009, Tim becomes the Red Robin and searches for Bruce in true detective fashion.

Stephanie Brown:
Stephanie was Tim's girlfriend and is the daughter of the crime lord The Cluemaster. When Tim retires for a brief time after his father's death, Stephanie decides to prove herself to Batman as dressing up in her own Robin costume and taking care of business on her own. She was the only female Robin, and eventually became the sixth Batgirl.

Damian Wayne:
Damian Wayne is the love child of Bruce Wayne and Talia al Ghul. He is the youngest of the Robins, but definitely the most sick minded. Damian out-right pummels Tim Drake in a fight for the role as Robin and clearly does not have his head screwed on right. He looks to Batman for approval and acceptance, but the two almost never see eye-to-eye.

For my personal favorite, Tim Drake. I would love to see Tim has his own movie and the reasoning for that is because he was the first Robin to work on his own from the start, rarely taken under Batman's wing. But that's my reasoning.

Thoughts anyone?

I voted other because I would love to see a Nightwing movie, because Dick Grayson kicks ass.

I would also like to see Jason Todd in his own Red Hood and the Outlaws movie.

Or do they have to be Robin in the movie?

Robin may have a following, but he's never been a very interesting character. He's support cast in it's greatest essence. Batman doesn't need him, he's only there to provide commentary, and he's overly useless to the point that even in the comics they break the fourth wall to question his usefulness.

The only way Robin could function as the leading character in a movie is if it was Teen Titans, or a Nightwing movie where they show his "humble beginning".
Not necessarily...Tim Drake was a very independent Robin through out his superhero career, same with Stephanie Brown. In fact, Tim Drake was often out on his own without Batman and as stated, looked for Bruce when Grayson and Damian went off to do the Batman and Robin duo for a while.

Hence the other option. I would like it to be a Robin movie, as in they are Robin, but I see why people would want to see the Red Hood or Nightwing, or hell if he has a large enough fanbase, the Red Robin.

I choose other. Why? Because I don't think any of the Robins really can stand out and lead a movie by themselves. Their future versions I think would though. As Robin they are automatically perceived as being the sidekick to Batman. They are overshadowed by their Mentor in the role of Robin. Maybe headline a show like Young Justice or a single episode of a Batman series but Robin is always something to be affiliated with Batman.

However, as Nightwing, Red Robin, Red Hood or whatever Damien will become then they could headline. They are no longer under their mentor. They are their own now. They have their own identities that have separated from Batman's. Sure they are part of the Bat family but they are not exclusive.

I would like to see either a Red Robin or Nightwing. I think Red Robin would be best as I really enjoyed his series from Batman's death. I was pretty disappointed when it ended and I like The Teen Titans comic but I want to see Tim Drake headlining a single series by himself for a bit. In fact get rid of the current Superboy run and replace it with a Red Robin. Ahem. Anyways I think Red Robin the most interesting out of all of them, though Nightwing is a pretty cool cat himself.

None as Robin. Robin has always been more of a sidekick. Sure they go out on their own but public perception is everything and the majority of the public perceives Robin as Batman's sidekick. Now if it is one about Nightwing or the other post-Robin Robins it would work.

I think it would be interesting to have a movie about Tim Drake figuring out who batman is and eventually taking over the role.

Ummm, I think they already made a film that is based around one of the Robins.

The movie is called "Batman: Under the Red Hood" and it stars the second Robin, Jason Todd, descending into the life of a vigilanty crime lord named the Red Hood. It's actually really great for a direct to video cartoon/animated film. They go over Jason's life as Batman's second Robin, his progression as a violent teen Robin, and he's motivation to becoming a bad guy. A lot of other great characters appear in this film, but I don't want to spoil too much. It's a great film and everyone should definitely buy it/check it out.

What I would like would be a Nightwing movie. And as for the sequel (all superhero movies must have them, you see) he takes the mantle as Bat-Man in Bruce's stead and trains Damien. It's been pretty cool seeing the turnaround of Bat-Man being witty and cheerful while Robin's been dark, brooding, and mysterious in the comics. That should be made into a movie.

Yeah but the OP was talking about a stand alone film, meaning no Batman. Just Robin.

I'd quite like a Jason Todd film, as he becomes Red Hood. There was Under The Red Hood but a stand alone Robin film would be pretty good.
You forgot to mention Dick Grayson becomes Nightwing :p Unless you mean just Robin and none of their other alter-egos.
Also there was Carrie Kelly, the 13 year old girl in The Dark Knight returns but she was a bit crappy so I wouldn't mention her either xP

This post as several others have also suggested sums it up quite nicely. For better or worse, Robin is simply not deep or interesting enough a character to stand on his own. He's overshadowed by Batman who is the driving force behind all the gadget-fuelled crime fighting and fisticuffs that takes place. I doubt any movie studio would ever justify financing a Robin movie as it would be a very risky venture without a certain audience.

Think about the latest PotC film that had Jack Sparrow front and centre. In fact I think Movie Bob reviewed somewhere on this site. As I believe he also summed up, Jack Sparrow was a successful character in the trilogy because he was a side-kick character, there for comic relief and the occasional help-move-story-forward plot device. He was along for the ride while the story happened to the main characters (Orlando & Keira) and it worked (well it did the first time anyway). As the main character, he simply didn't stand up well at all. It was both a critical and commercial failure to my understanding.

I'd rather not see a Robin movie made, but Tim Drake was always my favourite, so I'd say him. But only if they HAD to make one. :p

Most of DC's animated movies are excellent honestly. Under the Red Hood was probably one of my favorites, though I'm still horribly partial to Apocalypse because Supes gets his ass handed to him on a silver platter. Always a fun time when that happens.

On topic, Jason Todd. Why? Cause he gets a horrid rap from fans because of the very large differences between him and Dick. Not a knock against Dick, I love me some Teen Titans (not such a fan of Nightwing though), but Jason deserved better than he was given.

I voted Tim just because I always found him the most interesting. Damian and Todd are basically "Emo" Robins and Grayson is too...er... spunky.

Much as I love Steph, I never saw her as Robin. To me she'll always be the Spoiler.

Tim, on the other hand, was a very interesting character. There was no "I must AVENGE!!" theme hanging over him. He was just someone who wanted to do the right thing. What I loved most about his comics, especially the early ones, was the way he tries to balance his life with his role as Robin. It's nice to see the conflicts that would spring up from someone trying to live a normal life while doing these things.

That's something we could never get from Batman, since, lets face it, Bruce Wayne is anything but normal, in any version.

Tim Drake and Damian really hasn't done enough away from Batman to warrant their own movie so they are both out. Stephanie Brown is way too obscure. That leaves Jason Todd and Dick Grayson. Which means it would come down to a Red Hood movie or a Nightwing movie. Given the choice I'd take a Nightwing movie as Red Hood as a stand alone character simply isn't interesting enough. Yeah Under the Red Hood was an ok Batman movie but it doesn't change the fact Jason Todd really isn't that great of a character. Hell when he was Robin people actually voted to kill him.

Also, I'm surprised nobody has posted this yet.

You do know that there was a Robin series that lasted over 100 issues, right?

It would depend on the story. Nightwing had some really good solo stories over the years. My favorite one was in No Man's land and it involved him taking back Blackgate from the criminals there, and with a little tweaking, it could be a good 75 minute animated feature.

Robin's never been a particularly interesting character I'm afraid. I dug Damian during Batman and Robin, it was a real return to form for Grant Morrison.
Regardless there just isn't enough interesting material.
