Some friends and I were recently having a discussion regarding bathing. I believe that past the point of puberty when your body begins to produce more oils, and sweat, and when you begin to grow fixed length hairs which shed easily, baths should be used only for relaxation, and that when you intend to clean yourself, showers should be used. Another friend believes that the soaking effect which takes place in a bath can enhance the "depth of cleanliness", and showers can be taken either before or after a bath (or both before and after). Another friend believes that only showers should be taken and that baths are unsanitary and should not be taken ever, even for enjoyment or relaxation (it should be noted that this person likely does not wash their tub often which could be part of how they came to their conclusion.)

Thoughts? Comments?

I think that baths and showers can both clean, though showers are probably better doing so. And they're quicker. So they clean better and don't take as long. Win-win, right?

Baths are more relaxing, I'll grant you.

I shower only. It is not because I have any qualms about the cleanliness of bath it is because I am 6 feet tall and weigh over 220 pounds so I really can't fit inside the bath tub I currently have. Last time I tried it was just plain uncomfortable.

Hmm last time I took a bath I must have been 7 or so lol, for cleaning myself that is. I enjoy hot tubs for soaking and just relaxing but the idea of cleaning myself in a tub, marinating in my own filth kinda grosses me out. For that reason I don't even enjoy hot tubs as much because I feel like i'm sitting in piss after awhile.

Showers get you clean, they're fast and probably healthier over all.

In baths, you're essentially stewing in you own filth.

They're damn relaxing, but I never really feel that clean after one and they're far too time consuming.

For me, nothing can beat a hot shower after a stressful day, I love the sound, I love the steam.

I definitely understand the height thing, I think it applies to most people after a certain age, having either your knees or your upper torso sticking out of the water. (Why is it that in movies and TV people can always fit entirely in their tub?)

I do sometimes use baths to cure headaches though, but yeah, It would definitely help if the standard size was larger.

I don't like sitting in stagnant water, it's incredibly unappealing. I wouldn't be able to relax in a bath if you paid me. Nope.

Showers for me. They're all warm and lovely, or cold and refreshing and if you have a posh shower head, like having a massage.

I prefer showers most of the time, it's quick and gets the job done and feels great.

Baths take more time to prepare and honestly I get bored if I just sit there with nothing to do (i remember playing with my gameboy or reading a magazine when i did take baths xP), same reason why I can't stand sunbathing on the beach and I just gotta go into the water and swim around instead.

When I want to relax, I take a nice cold shower after I clean myself with a hot one. Everyone in my family takes showers. My 5 year old stepdaughter showers herself, my 3 year old stepson usually needs help, and my 3 month old daughter takes a shower with Daddy every other night. (Bathing too often is bad for a baby's skin.) Of course, my girlfriend also showers, except when she needs to shave...

Captcha: Is it plugged in?

I don't know, you are the one failing at using it!

Until about three or four years ago I only ever had baths. Never showers. I hated the idea of showers. Then I started taking showers one day and I haven't had a bath since, for any reason. I usually hate change and I resist it as much as I can, but with that I just completely changed one day from one extreme to another. Weird.

Oh is that what you call it! *snerk*

A big bath is very relaxing, showers for everyday cleaning though.

I hate taking baths, they're much hassle and your just sat in your own dirt. Showers are way easier and get you cleaner

I only take showers, I don't like soaking in a bath tub. Plus, I'm a big guy so I rarely find a comfortable tub to take a bath.

Showers most of the time, but if I've been doing some gardening that means I've got filth all over me I'll definitely have a bath. Baths are also massively superior to showers after running, as they really calm the feet down.

All in all, baths are better, but showers are way more convenient.

Showers most of the time unless I'm feeling really ill.
When I feel ill I like to have a really hot bath.
But our tub at the moment takes forever to even get half-full, so I usually just shower.

For me showers, only because I don't own a bathtub.
Maybe a bath for relaxation sometime if I find a tub but otherwise I only shower.

I don't have a bath tub now, but I never used it when I had, so whatever. I'm just used to showers.

And let me guess, you have a valve there, too, and you love it as well? :D

I didn't own a shower for 22 years because our water pressure was too low, but after a bath I'd always get a jug and pour water over myself to rinse myself off.

Now that I have both a bath and a shower, I'll take maybe one bath to every five showers. I don't feel like showers get all the nooks and crannies, you see, got to have a soak for a bit every couple of weeks to be sure I'm clean. But I'll still have a brief shower after that bath.

I hate baths, I can't remember the last time I had one. And they use up a serious amount of water, fuck paying the bill for baths everyday.

Showers: quick, easy, convenient, relaxing, you can change the temperature pretty much instantly when you're in it and if you do have a powerful one it makes you feel so clean and refreshed.
