Every time I enter the app store I always see the same 2 games in the top 25 for at least a year! Even when reading the reviews there is nothing but overwhelming praise, while slating the other (like an iPhone fanboy war). But which do you think is actually better out of the two?

Angry birds is definitely the best of these two, however neither of them are as original as they make out by a long shot! These type games have been around in the free browser game format for years!! Especially the doodle jump style climbing game!!
I always found Doodle Jump to be really boring and repetitive, really doesn't deserve the reviews it gets!
Agreed, PvZ wins. Every time.
But out of those two, Angry Birds definitely takes the cake. Semi-regular updates and expansions, TONS of content, a good challenge here and there, and it's just damn fun and addicting.

Angry Bird is oddly addictive, even though there has been so many different variations across the years of gaming. Must be the whole throwing birds at pigs things.
Angry Birds IS surprisingly addictive, but I've only played the Lite version, because I'm cheap like that.
Personally I use any game that ends up on Free App A Day and see how it goes from there.
I think one of my favourite iPhone games out there is Rednecks vs. Aliens. But then I love tower defence games XD
