So, last night I went to my first midnight release and picked up AC 4 while my Brother picked up BF4. I'm not interested in BF4, especially since I'm not a huge multiplayer person and I much prefer something more standard and close-quaters like Call of Duty (yes, I like COD. sue me), rather than the huge environments BF has to offer. I love AC 4 so far; The Pirate theme, ship battles, treasure chest, est. So, what are you gonna get?

I'm getting AC4 for the PC. But I'd never buy an Ubisoft product on launch. First I need to see performance reviews.

I preordered AC4 for the PS4, and after watching Jackfrags' PS4 multiplayer videos I'm sold on BF4 as well.

Neither seem all that appealing to me, never a fan of the Battlefield/CoD style of FPS and AC hasn't been interesting since the second game.

If I get either it will probably be Battlefield 4, but I doubt I'll get either. I haven't really been into the AC franchise since AC2 (and saying I was ever really into it is a stretch. I just played the games). The gameplay was never really that great, and the story and setting weren't enough to make up for it. Battlefield 4 has a little bit more of a chance considering I used to be very much into the Battlefield series around the BF1942-BF2142 time, but given what I've heard of BF4, it doesn't sound like it has really improved on the series compared to BF2, just compared to BF3. Still, my brother will likely get it, so I'll at least try it out before making a final decision.

BF4 for PC (must be on PC as this is my only "PC Master race" game for me), and AC for Xbox (as the rest of the series is on Xbox for me)

I'm a CoD guy so take this with a pinch of salt but Battlefield 4, while probably being less entertaining, will probably take up more time on multiplayer than Assassin's Creed 4 in any mode but the AC4 time will probably be more enjoyable.

New York Hero of Lime abstains from both...courteously.

Neither appeal to me at the moment. The like the AC series, but I'm burnt out on the yearly releases, and I've never had interest in Battlefield.

If I was given a choice of a free copy of either, then it would be AC4 I suppose.

I am tempted to get ACIV for PS4, but ACIII annoyed me with its baffling changes to its control scheme.

Never been interested in Battlefield, might get it if I get some people to play with on PS4, Killzone Shadow Fall looks quite good though.
Shame I'm getting BF4 on PC or you'd have somebody to play it with.

Shadow Fall looks pretty good but I'm not willing to buy a console at launch, particularly as everything but Shadow fall this Xmas season, that I want at least, is out for Wii U or PC and thus I am covered.

I voted for both.

I'm assuming these are for the PC...if that is the case then grab BF4 now play it for 2-3 weeks until AC4 comes out then take a break and go play that.

so it's battle of the bastards.
The assassins game that turned into a pirates game Vs the team based multiplayer game turned into CoD.

Yeah, personally I'm getting both, but if forced to decide I'd get BF4 and prey it has more teamwork than 3.

Maybe BF4, definitly no AC, they lost me at the second title already. And BF3 just doesn't need a sequel that fast, so suck it EA.

Neither...

I've hated Assassin's Creed since the 2nd game as the focus of the game went far away from assassinating, and it really is as Yahtzee says "faffing about". When the Glyph puzzles were my favorite part in AC2, I knew something had gone horribly wrong. The 1st AC felt a bit like Hitman but way in the past as the core of the game was doing the "hits"/assassinations. Yeah, the gathering intel missions sucked and were highly repetitive, but the assassinations themselves weren't bad. I wished the series kept going in the Hitman direction with being focused on the assassinations, but it instead went in the complete opposite direction.

I played the BF4 beta and it sucked. There's no leaning (that lean context sensitive bullshit doesn't count) and there's no sliding either. The aim-assist was basically auto-aim. The gunplay just sucked, MoH Warfighter is still way better.

It's a game about a group of people who call themselves Assassins. Why the fuck would anyone still think that the game is about assassinations when out of 6 games only the first one worked like that? And even then, if you really pay attention, it wasn't about the assassinations, it was about the animus and whatever was going on in the present time. Conventional video game logic and expectations don't really work with Assassin's Creed games. You can make an Assassin's Creed game out of everything as long as the protagonist is somehow connected to their order. Watch Dogs could turn out to be an Assassin's Creed game in disguise for all we know. There are theories about that. AC was never about assassinations. People should stop basing their expectations on a literal interpretation of the title. That doesn't work in 5% of the games.

The group of people who call themselves Assassins are fucking assassins. Part of the reason Desmond was using (probably still using) the Animus was to become a fucking assassin in physical skill (while finding pieces of Eden). In AC2, Desmond became an assassin. The series should've then just stayed in the future as Desmond learned what he needed to and became an assassin. I also loved the end of AC2 where Ezio...
was basically revealed to be nothing but a messenger for Desmond because I hated Ezio but then they milked the series thus making Ezio "important".

The problem is that after the 1st AC game, the series lost any sort of core gameplay that the first game had. Assassin's Creed isn't a platformer (with it's auto-platforming), it's not a combat game (as the combat sucks), it's not a stealth game, etc. It's not anything but an open world game where you are literally "faffing about". With your logic, Uncharted isn't about shooting, it's about treasure hunting; which is true, but the gameplay has to be about something as well. It's not that Assassin's Creed has to be about the assassinations but it has to be about something. It's just completely obvious that Assassin's Creed is on its 3rd or 4th creative director already (and this was a new IP for this gen), the series just doesn't know what it wants to be or where it wants to go. Watch_Dogs is going to be way better than any Assassin's Creed game as it will have core gameplay.

Learn to play with friends? I find Teamwork all the time in BF3. You need to learn to play with like minded individuals.
This.

There is a tangible difference in the severity of ass whooping handed out (or to you) between a random group and a 12 man clan in the lobby.

Yeah, you can find teamwork, but I'll forever miss the days of BF1942 - BF2 where teamwork was as common as reloading. The return of commander mode might help make it more common again. We'll see.
