For my most favorite would be Medal of Honor. Mainly because of all the diffrent stories there are and how diffrent they all are from each other.

I could have sworn there were more than four FPS games...

OT: Halo series. Love the universe and the multiplayer is always a blast.

Impossible to quantify, due to subjective opinion.

For myself, I go with Killzone 2, Republic Commando, or Half Life 2: Episode 2.

That's a tough one. I'll throw out some that have stood out for me.

XIII
Star Trek Elite Force (and EF 2)
Quake
Half Life 2 Episode 2
Deus Ex
Serious Sam The Second Encounter
Metro 2033
Star Wars Jedi Knight Jedi Outcast

If it was on the Quake 3 engine it was generally a blast to play.
This good sir certinatly knows his shit. I'd like to add a few though:
Quake 2
Deus EX Human Revolution
Killzone 2 is fucking cool
Counter Strike
F.E.A.R. the first one that is
Unreal, 2, Tournament, 2004
Star Wars Republic Commando
Left 4 Dead 2

Best based on...what? I love Quake 2 and Half-Life 2 but for different reasons. I can't compare them meaningfully. Oh, and why is there not an option for "none of the above" because, MoH, CoD, BF ("Battle Feild", is that bias creeping in?) and 007... Seriously?

Star Wars Jedi Knight Outcast was good but I prefer the second Jedi Knight Outcast.

Too many variables that are entirely subjective.

Single player or multiplayer?
Class based?
ALL THE GUNS style (Doom/UT/Quake/Warsow)?
Two-weapons-only, ala Halo?

Half-Life or Half-Life 2 are easily the best FPS ever IMO.

Just everything about them is so solid and well done.

I'd have to go with Halo...it's great fun.

Another I like is resistance, the guns are so awesome.

Even though it's an RPG, it is in the first-person and it does have shooting, so Fallout 3. I'm not big on the linear shooters. They don't appeal to me, especially the generic modern war kinds such as CoD or Battlefield.

Half life 2
Tea Fortress 2
Counterstrike Source

I haven't actually played any of the listed options. What exactly did you mean by 007? Goldeneye?

Captcha: Umbrella corporation. Goddamn it.

Half Life 2 is my all-time favourite.

captcha: I DON'T CARE ABOUT THE FUCKING ALL-NEW CHEVY SONIC. These annoying as hell captchas will prevent me from ever buying a chevy as long as I fucking live. If they become the only car manufacture on the planet I will buy a god damn bicycle.

FPS which left me impressed over the years and actually pick up again to replay.

Wolfenstein series. (even the newest one i enjoyed but was nowhere near as good as 3D and RTCW)
Doom series. (Even Doom3 cant hold a candle to the old school doom but i found the single player to be of good length and enjoyable)
Quake series.
Dark Forces/Jedi Knight series. (real shame Lucasarts have abandoned the series and/or forgotten about it)
Fear 1 and 2. (I felt fear 3 droped the charm fear had, barely ever saw alma spooking about and the regen health meant i could rambo instead of the strike and fade which i enjoyed doing in 1 and 2)
Half life 1 and 2. (Can't be arsed anymore waiting for HL3 or episode 3 though)
Left 4 Dead 1 (Couldnt really enjoy 2 as much as 1 felt like the A.I became retarded or something always getting overwhelmed etc or maybe its me being crap)
Halo 1 and Reach(nice lengthed campaign which is a decent timesink for me with its split screen Co-op)
Stalker series (Big large area to explore and some places were just spooky + Vodka magically removing minor radiation)

Well thats the ones i can think from the top of my head which ive personally enjoyed the hell out of.

I must say, considering the answers, that seems like quite a useless poll :p
As for my favourite FPS? Hard to say, there are a lot of them that I like. Often I like them for different elements.
