I don't seriously expect anyone to choose Vista, but my uncle just said that it is in fact quite good on a brand spanking new top of the range king of all PCs. (Obviously with less adjectives lol.) I included Linux and even Mac out of fairness, I have nothing against Linux, though I know nothing about the Mac system except to stay far away from it. I used it once for a while, don't remember the name of the OS, just know to avoid it. Anyway... Get voting. Please try to keep this from degenerating into a flame war... PLEASE! Oh yeah, my money is on XP, though I do hear that 7 is getting to almost rival XP, but for the amount it takes up on your hard drive.

This thread is just asking for trouble.

Personally, I just use Windows Vista, because it came with the computer. I don't really give a shit about what my OS is, so long as stuff works when I click on it.

I thought 7 actually took up less space?

I chose vista because I've had it and it's never caused me problems. Unlike many others, it seems.

7, it's like Vista with some thought in it. It's fast like XP, has the features of Vista and works like Linux. To top it off, it's not Mac.

I chose Vista, partially to prove you wrong, and partially because I don't see why everyone has such a big problem with it - I quite like it.

Haven't had any issue with XP yet. It's decent and most everything seems to run on it (except Halo 2! Oh noes!)

Don't really wanna faf about with Vista and W7's compatability malarky and considering how many older games I play, I likely would have to.

That's right but when it comes to Windows, stuff isn't really working is it. I use XP because it also came with the computer.

Vista, if you have the attention span to fix it up how you like. Mine runs like a beast and I hardly ever get any errors, so I will have to go for other? New poll option, Modified vista lol.

I know. I should lock it, just let the poll do the work. Hmmm. I started with Vista, and found that stuff that should work with my specs, didn't. So I "downgraded" to XP, and now I can actually run Crysis, UT3, Farcry 2, Assassins Creed.

I have used Windows from 3.1 all the way up through 95, 98, and XP. I have never wanted to touch Vista because I hear it has many inherent problems, and I don't know much about Windows 7 except that it's supposed to combine the best of Vista & XP in it...which in my mind reads that it won't have much at all in it....

Personally, I have two Macs, and it's so much easier and more reliable than any Windows system I've been on during the past 15 years.

Macs are easier to troubleshoot too, which makes a difference when you are Technical Support for an ISP.

Hmmmm. i could have heard wrong, or with the updates it may be improved. But XP only takes up like one GB. And it's pretty fucking hard to beat that. And still be an OS worth anything, anyway.

I've only used the RC for 7 so far, but even at that point it was already far superior to vista, and at least as good as XP. Don't get me started on Apple/Linux os's

Considering how incredibly cheap Hdd space (non SSD) is nowadays I'd say that whether it takes up 1gb or 10, it really makes absolutely no difference. If you were talking about resource use that would be different but unless you're running a dangerously low spec machine for the OS even then it's not such a major issue.

XP takes up more than a gig when it's vanilla. Add on the entirety of the Windows Update catalogue and all the service packs and things it needs to be competent today and you're still looking at 10gb and a 9 year old OS clinging to DX9 harder than the xbox does.

Drop XP, get the next xbox out and get some games with DX10 and DX11 going.

Back on topic, I think this should be titled "What's your favourite OS?" Because OS choice is entirely conditional. I use Windows because I like it and am resilient to change. I don't use Mac because it's expensive, I'm resilient to change and I like gaming on PC's which requires an upgrade every 4-5 minutes. I don't use Linux because everything's programmed for Windows or Mac and I can't stand emulation.

Windows 7, hands down and by a far margin.

All the modern features of Vista with the speed and accessibility of XP plus a handful of genuinely handy features bolted on for good measure.

I used XP up to the launch of Vista, made the grave mistake of going for the 64bit version that NOTHING supported so after a horrendously frustrating 5-6 months went back to XP. Built a 2nd machine about a year and a half ago and reused that old 64bit Vista disc and while the service packs, windows updates and software updates made it far more bearable it was still a pain to use on a daily basis (UAC anyone?).

For me Win7 has the absolute best of both worlds and I wouldn't consider going anything else.

I chose Windows Vista just to spite you. :D

I am using it at the moment and it runs fine on my laptop and I have no problems with it, but I don't really play games on my laptop.

ms-dos. yeah the one before windows was invented. I sure do miss the days of having to park my hard drive so I didn't run the risk of ruining it.

Windows 7 is pretty great. No hassle with it. Also, Mac OS is great, seriously. You people just have some bias against macs.

windows 7 for any decent specced pc, and for all self built pcs. Xp for any shitty ass 6 year old pc with 1 gb of memory or less and a single core.
