One element of Sci-Fi movies and books that always pops up is that of augmenting the human body. There have been two major ways in most literature, TV, Cinema and Games; Biological, and Cybernetic. Picture you live in the future and have been offered access to the entire field of augmentations of both sorts, but due to technical limits(just go with it) you can't have both sorts, so you have to choose. What kind and how much augmentation would you want? Assume that the augments by themselves are not dangerous but any disadvantages you gain by getting them count.

Personally I would get Biological Augments that simply enhance everything I already have. Things like increased muscle size and density, increased cardiovascular efficiency, enhanced metabolism, enhanced senses, ect. I wouldn't really want anything "new" such as extra limbs, though making what I have better would be pretty sweet.

cybernetic brain so I could hack like ghost in the shell :D on a serious note prob wouldn't have anything done till a accident or age made me need to.

I'd say biological to enhance myself where needed

Cybernetics are cool and all, but are limited by an electrical signal while biological bonuses are limited by a chemical signal

Can't get my augmentations deactivated by an EMP if they there never electronic to begin with ;)

Cybernetics.
A complete robotic vessel to replace this meatbag vessel.

Of course, an EMP proof robotic vessel.

Bio all the way. Do you have any idea of the kind of problems inherent in trying to hook inorganic materials up to a living human body? I certainly do, and it's NOT PRETTY. Heck, people get stupefying life-threatening infections from pierced earrings.

That's not to say that biological stuff won't have all kinds of weird-ass side effects. People die from vaccines after all.

Wait . . . I DO have biological modifications! I'm immune to whooping cough, measles, tetanus, pertussus, polio, mumphs, rubella, diptheria, and hepatitis B! I've also had a phrenectomy.

Clearly I'm superhuman now.

Cybernetics. I'd probably go for increased reaction time and a full HUD that I can turn on and off that is essentially an on board computer. That way I could play games wherever I am without hassle. That would be awesome.

If they have a modicum of elegance and subtlety, I'll go for cybernetics. Specifically, I'd like the following:

- Enhanced optical sensors with zoom function, able to view and record in several spectral fields and display an optional multifunctional HUD.
- Digital weaponry - as in small, unnoticeable weapons concealed in fingers or fingertips (monofilament needle launcher, laser, retractable blade, acid spray, etc.).
- MIU (Mind Impulse Unit), a small haptic implant connected to my higher brain functions, allowing me to link up with and control technology with my mind.
- Medical nanobot infusion to enhance regenerative capabilities in case of injury.
- Subdermal titanium shielding surrounding vital organs.

That's all I can think of right now.

-EDIT- Obviously I'll only choose cybernetics if they're not susceptible to (electro-)magnetism.

Cybernetic, well, robotic if I had the choice.

Winter automail all the way!
It's tough, it's light, it's not magnetic, and it doesn't need electricity to run all facets of it's functionality.

Your a man, and there is nothing you would want extra of? A second third leg, perhaps?
Oh how did I see that coming!? XD

Nah, Im pretty happy with the situation downstairs, besides that would scare the dogshit out of most girls.

Probably biological. I guess it depends upon the extent of the enhancements. I mean, with cybernetics, you could live forever except that your brain would decay (and you couldn't replace your brain, because that is the same issue as cloning and killing the original). I'd go with biological, I mean, enhanced muscle mass, cardiovascular capacity, regenreative capabilities, degeneration-proof brain, etc. I mean, you could still be killed, but by strengthening your bones, muscles, organs, and your general capacity to heal, it would take a great deal of force to kill you, and with the regeneration and stuff you can live forever without your brain farting out on you.

Well my body is pretty much FUBAR....so Mechanical augmentations, please.

Specifically a something that would let me run Ezio style?

-Enhanced Reaction Time
-Increased Muscle Tone
-Increased Muscle/Weight Ratio
-Increased Inner Ear Function
-Super special eyeballs that see important stuff in gold and baddies in red

Coming Right Up, would you like to order out monthly magazine "Body Augments and You"?

Superhuman compared to quite a lot of the world. Especially those anti-vaccine idiots, the ones that risk their children's lives over a faulty belief.

Sorta on topic: I've got a steel plate in my wrist to hold it together. Does that count as biological or technological? Because whichever one it is, I'd want more. Either that or the plasmids from Bioshock.
