I've recently been recommended a good number of books to get my teeth into, which is the inspiration for this thread.

See while I love to read, I don't really have time to focus ONLY on reading. So I looked into audiobooks. So far I've downloaded the audiobooks of "Storm Front" by Jim Butcher, and "The Lost Symbol" by Dan Brown. only started on Storm Front as of right now, but I'm finding it much easier to really get into the story than I would if I read it from a page. Course it does help to have James Marsters reading it *swoons*.

Anyway Escapists. when you have a book you really want to read, are you more likely to sit down and read it, or are you more inclined to hook up some headphones and have someone reading it out to you?

I can't really get into Audio Books. It feels as if someone is just reading the book to me and I just can't into it that way. I prefer just to sit in place and read the books in silence.

Physical Books, page turning is part of the experience too, the feel of it, the smell of paper. Everything else, like electronic visuals, seem like an inferior substitution for the real deal.

Books.

Then I can read it at my own pace, when I want to.

Someone speaking to me just tends to zone me out, and enter zombie mode.

I'd rather read them. By reading with my eyes my imagination kicks in and i start to picture the events described in the story and using my own narrator voice. Unless of course Morgan Freeman was reading the book.

I really like audiobooks. They're nice for car trips, because I can't read in a car without getting sick.
The Discwworld books are actually best as audiobooks, because they're so wordy, and hard to get into otherwise. It doesn't hurt that the readers they choose are awesome.

I like the serenity that comes with just sitting (more like half-lying) and reading a good book. Unfortunately, my eyes suck, so I can't really read. I still try though! No audio books for me!

Oh, if only Marsters had played Dresden in the TV show.

I have no interest in audiobooks, though. My mom has an audible account so I burn books to disc for her, but even though I have a ton of them in my library, I don't listen to them.

His voice is just...perfect for audio book reading. In fact, it's perfect for pretty much anything.

And there was a TV Show of the Dresden files?

I've never actually used an audiobook before.

I mostly read physical books, but I do occasionally acquire an E-book, for those lazy sunday mornings where you just wanna stay in bed, and stick with moving nothing but a finger on a scroll-wheel :p

Books all the time. I much prefer sitting with a good book and losing myself in a world of fantasy.

Also, epic choice. The Dresden Files are brilliant, one of my favourite book series.

Not a GOOD one, but Sci Fi picked up a 13 episode season. Don't expect a huge number of similarities: There's no Blue Beetle or Mister, Bob's a condemned ghost, Dresden swings around a hockey stick, Murphy's not really tough as nails, short, or blonde enough, most secondary characters don't exist, and only the pilot really follows the plot of the books (Storm Front ran later in the mix, though, so by then it probably didn't matter).

Well, same problem here. Except I'm one hell of a multitasker and have a better time concentrating on an audio-book if I'm doing something suitably simple at the same time. Some computer-games are great for this while others simply wont allow it. But I'm a slow reader and this has helped me read many long and interesting books that I simply wouldn't have read otherwise.

But if you read at a much faster rate than any audio-book than it much better to read it yourself.

Books. I hate things like that being read to me. Plus, I can take the words, especially dialogue between characters.

I usually read physical books, but one time I couldn't get the book I wanted before going on vacation, so I downloaded the audiobook. I was surprised at how much I liked it; to me it felt easier listening than reading. Unfortunately, the audiobook would also get stuck and freeze alot, so that was quite frustrating. Regardless, I get most of my books from the library, so I continue to read physical copies.

I could never use an audio book, my mind would wander away three sentences in.
It's easier to stay focused on a physical book, and it's a lot easier to turn back a page if need be.

Also, Hooray Dresden Files!
