Poll: Calling all metal-heads...

The big 4, for those who do not know, refers to 4 thrash metal bands:

Metallica:
Megadeth:
Slayer:
and Anthrax:

These 4 metal bands are basically the biggest names in thrash. No other bands really come close; hence the title "The Big 4". I have always wondered which one the Escapist community prefers.

So, I pose the question to y'all: which of the big 4 is your favorite, and why?

Because they are? I dunno, I just know what the internet tells me. And everywhere I look in the internets, it says that the big 4 is composed of Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and Anthrax. :/

I've never heard of Exodus in my life. Granted, I'm not a big metal fan, but I'm still plenty familiar with Anthrax and the other three. This is a perfectly reasonable Big Four

I'm not really a big thrash guy, but I have to give respect to Megadeth. Marty Friedman is an excellent guitarist and Dave Mustaine's singing is threatening, but not painfully unintelligible. Also, Early Metallica's pretty good. The other bands I don't care for.

Metallica easily out of those four for me, even with just their first 4 albums I would still choose them. Really love Master Of Puppets and One, powerful songs I wish more bands could write.

I am going to have to say Metallica however, I've never really listened to Anthrax (just never really got around to it) so I feel my choice is not the most informed. I've been a Metallica fan for many years now so this decision is probably based mostly on loyalty.

Megadeth, oh God, Megadeth. Amazing guitar skills, the song writing is good and I think Dave is much more versatile for creating riffs than anyone else from the big 4.

From that list, Megadeth. I love their lyrics, you read that right, and I suppose style. I can't really differentiate any of them with words but something in Megadeth clicks with me.

Of those four? I've only heard a few songs by Metallica, two by Megadeth (Symphony of Destruction and Sweating Bullets), one by Slayer (Raining Blood), and nothing by Anthrax. I'm still a metalhead, though, so...

...guess I'd go with Megadeth, just based on how much I like Symphony of Destruction. Also, Dave Mustaine had a guest role on Duck Dodgers, so bonus points.

Amen. More of a power/symphonic listener, myself, so I'll concur.

If there are any objections, I'd just point out "Another Stranger Me" or "Punishment Divine" and say they count, if you squint a little.

Metallica, but only because I don't really listen to any of these (they make good music but never really gotten into them) and metallica is the band I've listened most to, not just songs on the radio.

I'm not a fan of Slayer (I only like one of their songs...)

I've listened to a bit of Megadeth, and they're pretty good but I still prefer Metallica.

And I swear I'll get around to listening to Anthrax, I promise!

Also as to why these are the big 4, they were the popular ones when Thrash Metal was becoming a thing.

Agh, these two people mega ninja'd me. Yes, exactly this - I like them all but Metallica stands slightly above the rest. But Black Sabbath is better.
