Can I put an I7-2600K in any new motherboard with an 1155 socket?

I want to upgrade from a PCI 2.0 slot for the graphics card newer cards are PCI 3.0, get DDR4 and a GTX 1060 or AMD 480 graphics card. This way I keep about $800 bucks worth of stuff and double my PC speeds (currently DDR3 1333, HD 7970). Also be nice to have a USB 3.1, not that I have anything that will utilize it yet (hmmm, have to look on amazon for a 3.0 to 3.1 converter and see if I get better transfer speeds on a Galaxy S7).

Your advice is appreciated: EDIT: MB descriptions include chip sets! Another question, would an old motherboard see one of these new PCI 3.0 8 Gb ddr5 graphics cards?

No, it won't fit.

PCI 3.0 is backwards compatible with PCI 2.0. You can put newly released cards in your current computer and get more or less the same performance you would get if you were using equivalently powerful current hardware. Also RAM speed doesn't really have an appreciable impact on performance. Your current hardware is still pretty decent and if you're looking for the best value for money then probably just upgrade the graphics card.

There is no such thing as a USB 3.0 to 3.1 converter. There are USB 3.1 PCI cards but regardless you're always limited by the speed of your devices and the S6 and S7 went back to USB 2.0 after briefly using 3.0 on the S5 so you won't see any performance gain there.

Ooops, you're right. 1155. So, would a 2600k, which is 5 years old, work on any new motherboard with such a socket? Are there other considerations outside of socket size? (Hmm, if they are still made!) EDIT: looking at microcenter.com seems it is outdated tech. Best to follow SnowyGamester's advice below)

I did just read that no card available today can be bottle necked in 2.0.

just upgrade the graphics card.
Long story short, bought a AMD 480 w/ 8 Gig DDR5 and will put it in ASAP.

GTA 5 awesome: as I add better graphics options, it estimates video RAM required. My HD 7970 has but 3 which quickly fills up. I am looking forward to the 50% better performance and 8 Gig to see what it can do. Should keep me happy for another 18 months. If my wife hasn't killed me for buying all this stuff by then, I'll see what else looks good :)

Why the heck did they do that!?!? Oh well.

Cuz there's no reason at the moment to have USB 3.0 on a phone. No-one does anything on a phone where they absolutely need the file transfer speeds of 3 dot oh, and I presume it would have been more expensive for Samsung to implement 3 instead of 2.

Yes, it will work, but will it have enough power? I ran a 2600K for a few years, and if I recall correctly, I used an 8 pin CPU power connector. So if you do plan to use a 2600K, get an 1155 socket mobo and check the CPU power connecter, make sure its 8 pin.

Yes, as long as the card is getting enough juice, so make sure you plug in power cables. Also, if it's an old mobo, as in used, one of its PCI-E slots might be dead. Happened to me. I used to run two 560 Ti's, one of the slots died, then upgraded to a single 770 (and got better performance than the two older cards).

Rats. Cuz I do or would do a lot of picture and music transfers. Pictures are as much as 12 meg a piece these days!

Will do. Just got my new RX 480 with but a 6 pin connection. It will be replacing my HD 7970 which is working but has but 3 Gig of DDR5 to the 480's 8 Gig. According to Passmark, it's about 50% more powerful too and will do DX 12 so I'm getting Battlefield 1 when it comes out. I'm advised in this thread that the 3.0 card is bc with the 2.0 slot and not to worry about the 2.0 slot being a bottle neck on it.
Not sure the the HD 7970 will physically fit into my even older rig to replace a GTS 250 but got to give it a try. EDIT: Just may! I am mostly concerned with the cooler getting in the way. I may have unnecessarily used a low profile card as this kid appears to have the same cooler and has no problem with a full size card
