Some IPs have a notoriously bad history with games, but none more so than Superman. No one has managed to get the man of steel right, the most infamous example being Superman for the nintendo 64 which is reguarded as one of the worst games ever made, right up their with his other alien comrad E.T.

But putting that aside do you ever think there could be a good Superman game? Batman had his day with Arkham Asylum despite a bad history, Spiderman had a good game wih Spiderman 2 (despite the flaws), do you think there can ever be a Superman game that does the last son of Krypton justice?

I'd like to think so but I have a hard job seeing it for the same reasons there are very few good superman stories in general. The mans too damn powerful. Batman's limits give him an edge, people where making games about badass humans kicking ass long before AA. And honestly I can't think of any game protagonist who's anywhere near as powerful as Superman without turning on god mode.

A good game can be made out of everything, it just requires talented people behind it, and Superman's IP just keeps jumping from retard to retard.

Earth to captain moron here, that game was fucking excellent! I would prefer it if you didn't insult the greatest contribution to gaming of our generation.
I agree, its up there with ET for the Atari and Big Rigs for the PC.

Never say never. Superman Returns: The Game was on the right track with it's open world and freedom to use Superman's powers without a load of bullshit restrictions. The problem was that game looked awful, had no story, and was repetitive as hell. If that game was polished and refined then it could be great.

I was quite partial to some Power Rangers and Carmageddon on my N64.

Superman can't make a good game character because the gameplay wouldn't change throughout the game. He'd have all his abilities at the beginning and, as someone who can go any place on the planet any time he wants, it would be easy to make the game feel small or confined. Still, there must be someone with good ideas for old Soupy to feature in a decent game.

I agree a hero with no weakness, well, one that's incredibly rare, Just isn't that interesting. A game has to have more then dumb ai that's just there to be knocked down.

You could start the game as a child and work your way up. Superman couldn't fly until a lot later in life and his strength grew as he did. You could have a game about his early life ending with him a super powered god.

Eh, I'm not sure. Superman doesn't exactly have a lot of the wiggle room that say, Spidey or Batman has. The guy defends metropolis from a bald guy, and he can fly so while Batman might be able to work being "stuck" on an asylum that's also an island. Supes could just fly to the bad guy, crushing every wall and henchman in his way.

Plus, no one has gotten Superman's flight mechanics right yet. Maybe a Supes flying game in the style of TIE Fighter.
That would at least be a decent download title.

He is just too powerful. There are only a few characters that are on par with him such as Doomsday, Superboy Prime, Sodam Yat and Martain Manhunter. But half of them are good guys anyway. They could maybe make a good game out of the comic series Last Stand of New Krypton and War of the Supermen, as Brainiac's robots and Zod's Kryptonian soldiers would pose a threat to The Man of Steel.

Possibly.

Superman faces the problem of being total indestructible, except when he comes face-to-face with a rare rock that absolutely everyone on the planet has a fucking chunk of.

He's overpowered, which makes it difficult to pull off a Superman-esque Arkham Asylum.

I think it's possible, but it'd need to be done by the right people.

At face value, he's simply too powerful for a superhero beat em up type game, but having him in anything that isn't that genre would be silly.

Replace Niko from GTA with Superman. Seriously that's all you would need to do.
Well they tried to do Spiderman 2 with Superman in an open world where you go about saving the city.
