As simple as that. When I was living in the US, I was the only person I knew who could drive a car with a stick shift, which I found very very bizarre, since it was so much more practical for me (I like to shift down when I'm going uphill, and automatic cars don't do that)

Every freaking day through traffic. I've never owned anything other than a standard. Now, I live in Texas and yes. It is appauling how few people know how the properly drive a standard, ie. not sucking at it.

What the man above me said, everyone in Scotland owns a maunal as does most of europe and Asia probably, why would you learn to drive in an automatic anyway? If you can drive a shift you can drive anything.

also, if you drive stick, you can realistically dream about one day owning a skull with glowing eyes for the grip of your gearstick. i've been waiting for my chance to have one of those since i was 11

Being English I learn with Manual transmission, so that would be a yes.

I honestly don't understand why you don't learn that way around anyway, once you can drive a manual, automatics are no problem.

I will never learn to drive, so I shall avoid all issues with automatic/manual, thankfully.

I can drive a stick shift, but a) not well, and b) I don't like to. I mean, really don't like to. I have concentration problems as it is, so paying attention to that too nearly breaks my brain. I could learn to drive it better with practice, but I'm too worried about dropping the damn transmission out because of a stupid mistake to practice more.

its easy really. the only tricky part is getting into gear from a handbrake stop at traffic lights. ironically i can do this on a hillstop, but still have trouble on level group at a stoplight. go figure.

I can't, but I'd like to learn. But nobody I know has a stick shift, so I can't get any practice. I do have Autostick in my car, though.

Yea I could drive with a manual transmission. Not legally, but I'm pretty sure I could actually take to the roads with a manual (seeing as how they are the norm here in England) and do pretty well.

I used to be able to, at least in parking lots, after my dad trained me in it, but I did it so infrequently and it's been so long I'd never be able to now.
