Ok, we've seen celebrity likenesses in games (Kristen Bell in Assassin's Creed for one of the more useless ones), and we've heard celebrity voices in games (Ron Perlman for one of the dreamiest~), but I find it kinda weird that we don't have more celebrities hawking games (outside licensed tie-ins). Is it because games promotion doesn't fit in with "regular" celebrity endorsement?

I mean, the only recent ones I can think of are Gary Busey's promos for Saint's Row 2:

Heh, I like that one for Professor Layton...

Anyway, there are Will Shatner and others' WoW ads:

But man, Gary Busey's a total nutjob. Googling pictures always brings up that crazy-ass smile. He recently did a viral vid series for something called gotvmail (some virt. phone system), and accdg. to an interview, he's really like that:

He'd probably be great at a party.

haha, that reminded me of the Entourage episodes he's in, total nujob.

I'm not quite sure if this counts but microsoft does some stuff where they hire some celebrities to play a game on xbox live for a few hours, which is supposed to get people to play it. Sounds pretty awful to me, since these stars probably don't really want to play the game, which makes it just another job for them and in turn makes the entire experience dull.

I would love to see some shameless promotion by some washed-up stars or otherwise comically useless individual.

Didn't Slash shamelessly promote Guitar Hero III?
hmm I guess he did, I had completely forgotten about that, actually. But I think it's only going to get worse with Guitar Hero World Tour - more celebrities = more shameless promotion.

So they haven't given up on the retarded idea of playing as real people?
I don't think so, Ozzy Osbourne, Zakk Wylde are in it, and the drummer from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Police and Blink 182 are in some promotional video about the "awesome" drum kit, I think they're in it as well.

When will they figure out that the attraction comes in pretending that you are a rockstar, not pretending to be someone else who is already a rockstar, and in Ozzy's case, a washed up old has-been.
Probably never, maybe they'll start to make it like the Madden games and every year there's a new rockstar on the cover, imagine that.
