So my cousin and his family have a BBQ between themselves nearly every week and oftentimes they have leftovers. They usually ask people around the neighborhood, and I usually decline because they cook with charcoal. I may be committing some sort of atrocity by saying that gas cooked food just tastes better than charcoal; I can actually taste the meat cooked on a gas grill rather than the burned wood that flavors food on a coal grill. So I ask you whether you prefer food cooked on gas or charcoal (or some other kind of grill) or any grilled food at all?

I only cook with propane and propane accessories.
Hank Hill would thank you.

OT: I grill (because you have to becareful what you call barbeque in some places of the US, and the world) with charcoal, like I like the taste, and theres less chance of accidental injury then a compressed tank of gas.

When I grill I almost exclusively use Charcoal. I'm no master, but I've been doing it for several years at least a few times a week and I think food tastes better when cooked with coal. I used a gas grill at my old apartment for a couple years and it tastes fine and it is easier to use. When I moved and started using a charcoal grill the taste difference was pretty apparent to me and I've stuck with it.

I think what I don't like about charcoal is that it pretty much gives everything you cook on it an incredibly similar taste and I have a harder time actually tasting the food instead of the smoke.

Gas is just waaaaaaaaaaaaaay more convenient.
You turn it on.
Now you can grill stuff.

Charcoal? Unless you're doing LOX, you will not get that speed.

I haven't noticed that. Maybe your cousin doesn't clean his grill or uses too much with not enough ventilation?

All I know is that grilled food is awesome.

If you have a chimney starter it speeds things up. Not as easy or as quickly as using gas, but it does help.

Ninja'd. Gas is really easy to cook with -- it's basically an outdoor gas oven. That said, charcoal usually tastes better, and if you're doing barbecue, it's tough to beat an actual wood fire in one of those giant grills.

I like cooking with black oak myself. It really seals in the flavor.
Charcoal is a close second. Barbecuing or grilling with gas? Blasphemous. It is now no longer barbecuing or grilling. It's just cooking.

I'd like to say charcoal just because in my head, I could see that being tastier. But honestly I I've had both, and I wouldn't rate either one any higher than the other. I can't tell any difference. I guess if I had to choose to do one or the other myself, I'd choose gas just because it's easier.

Also, is your username a George Carlin reference? If so, you are some pretty cool beans :3

It actually is a George Carlin reference, someone asked me that about a week ago actually!

BUT MANLIER!

I've had food cooked over charcoal, gas, wood and dried poo. Honestly, I don't have a preference for any of them, it's mostly about the food being cooked. I do have a preference for not being the one collecting the poo, too many spiders.
