So I'm playing a game of CIV 4 Beyond the Sword expansion. My country, the good old USA, is doing quite well. About the industrial age, the Mongol people(who been my long term allies)demand tribute from ME. I reject the threat, and Genghis Khan begins the invasion of Philadelphia.

(I have machine guns and planes) he has horses and muskets. But CIV 4 is stupid in that tech advantage means nothing in combat. My cities have been overrun by Mongols. Through some anarchy, I transform America into a nationalist country with a draft and state property and begin my counterattack. As soon as I am about to liberate Philadelphia, the bastard bring the Japanese into the war! This is insane! My army of cavalry and modern infantry cannot hold out against hordes of these sizes!

So I ask you comrades, can you help a rookie leader to survive this apocalypse? Do I abandon my people and submit to the horde? Or make a last stand? Other options? I need help! (I practically crapped my pants when I saw the size of Tokugawa's horde of elephants o.o)

Man I wish I could help you, but I really suck at Civilization. But from the sound of things, your are horribly screwed. I think you're only option is to retreat and fortify your defenses. Also, are there any allies you might be able to drag into the war?

Again, I suck at this game so my advice is probably horrible. Good luck!

Nuke 'em all!

In all seriousness, can you ally yourself with anyone? I've never played the game, but if the computer can do it...

Load a saved game.

I mean, defense, defense, defense - if you have a tech advantage, you should be able to hold them off until you can shift your production into full-war-time status. Keep key positions, but realize you can't hold everything right now - mass up a force and take it back after they leave something undefended and you can crush it with superior force.

In short, "retreat, then counterattack."

One time I had a bomber lose to a barbarian tribe. No seriously it was online and the game lagged and I ended up minus one bomber.

Oh yeah, I just remembered that War Elephants move at a pitiful speed. Unless they are already marching into your borders, you should be able to build up a sufficient defense before they arrive.

Civilization. The only game in which an attack helicopter can lose to men armed with bows and arrows.

Indeed. Alliances are usually the best option, even if you need to Give up some of your technologies to do so. If you are very sure they will forever be loyal, perhaps share some of your military technology.

If all Else Fails, I believe you can become their Vassal state for a time. Than Build the Manhattan Project, free yourself, and Completely level all his cities!

Wat?

Maybe it's because I've never played a civ game, but that's seriously fucked up.

Anyway, perhaps you should try consolodating your army by bunkering up in the northwestern states, the country's so big your forces are probably spread thin. the mongols might not be able to to easily hold a hostile land that's twice again the size of their own country. It'll be a pain in their economy as long as they hold it. What's the situation with canada? If you could hedge your bets and move up to alaska you might be able to bottleneck the hoards. Would their low tech give them problems in the cold? If you have planes you could try bombing the living shit out of occupied america.

But then, you're fighting Genghis Kahn, so stratagy might have fuck-all to do with this.

Develop nukes ASAP. I dunno if this has changed since I played a few games of Civ4 in the long-long ago (I mostly do Civ 3 and Civ Rev), but I remember helicopters being a very good offensive unit which could protect my border by killing anyone within range, much like how I use catapults in CIv Rev. Focus on defense. Once his forces are no longer an immediate threat to your cities, start going on the offensive. The best tactic for defense imo is to have a medium number of offensive units patrolling your borders and ATTACK HIS UNITS BEFORE THEY ATTACK YOU. As his is on the offensive at the juncture, they will likely have a low defense and weak to attack. Once you have what you feel is a safe number of units in your cities and around your territory, start shifting all production into artillery pieces and other offensive support units, they should be the first line of attack against his cities, send in offensive ground units afterwards with defensive unit in the same square so they will not be as vulnerable to attack. And focus on one of the two countries you're at war with. Try to make peace with which ever offers it first then exterminate the other.

Hope this helps.

Damn I need this game again, had the first Civ4, then lost it.

Just found Civ4 and all expansions on play.com for £5, sorted. If you can wait a few months for me to get good I can help you with your question.

Might be useless saying this now, but I don't think nukes is that good of an idea. Definitely don't use them in territory you control. And won;t using them piss off other countries?

I'm not going to nuke my own cities, I'll use them on the enemy forces + capitals. Bribing Mali was a bad move, because everyone hates them. It's effectively a world war now. (I've never done that before! World War 1 is fun) Ironic fact...I just remembered I had built the Great Wall. Keep them damn Mongorians out...

Well, just don't nuke any enemies close to your territory. I've never actually used nukes in Civ 4, but I imagine the resulting fallout can be a big problem.

Damn this is making me want to play a game of Civilization right now.

BUILD ADDITIONAL PYLONS

In little seriousness, shift+opt+c.

In more seriousness, "pooPants.exe"

In all seriousness, I don't think you'll have a great advantage unless you defend what's necessary (especially farms around your cities) and avoid attacking at all costs, unless you have a larger force to compete with.
