Ah co-op; it can make an average game great and a great game spectacular, but what is your favorite style of co-op?
Note: I have space for another poll option so if you can think of a type I missed shout out.

I prefer the standard single player with an extra dude thrown in, i.e. the Halo experience. Its more fun just to dick around with freinds than it is to be all serious about the game.

I like the Resistance 2 approach to co-op, where each individual person is contributing something to the effort. Really gives me a sense of accomplishment :)

I enjoy Saints Row 2's style Co-Op. (The Co-Op Fable 2 SHOULD have had. Both players tied to one camera over Xbox live? Really? REALLY?!)

I think i always prefer it when each character or player has something different to offer, that's not necessarily to say that they need to have different abilities etc, but when i work in a team i like to distribute tasks, ie: having a person covering you while you're defusing a bomb just makes sense. (btw this is just the most generic and easy example i could come up with.)

I'm going to have to second you on that. Resistance two really did a good job on that. i just wish that more teamwork was needed instead of a bunch of dicks that think there great because they can play the solder with the whole team throwing medkits and ammo at them.

Team Fortress 2 did an amasing job with the teamwork part, but you wouldnt be able to call it Co-OP.

Army of Two, and Gears of War. My friend and I played through each of them and I had loads more fun with those games because of it. I never even played through it by myself because I really could've cared less for them without the co-op aspect.

Added a"Everyone is working towards the same goal but can do their own thing" option just for you.

If teamwork isn't necessary to survive, why would I do it? If I can "WTFPWN" everything that dares set its feet within my gaze, why should I bother hanging around Mr. "WTFPWN" 2?

I carry heavy weapons and long range firepower. Sometimes snipe so i like it when games allow the co-op person to carry weapons which balence my weakness's. Like the two guys i game with, 1) likes to rush and use close combat techniques (he's not great but he makes a good distraction) and 2)the other uses explosives and medium range weapons a little to much for his sanity (team kills with over sized blasts...hence my prefering to stay away)

Tough choice, but I love to feel needed in co-op. I like to feel a sense of teamwork and accomplishment after completing a really hard task, and not that I, or the person I'm playing with, just did it all on their own.

i like MMO's and the throw an extra dude in it just for the hell of it, but in the en i picked MMO's because instead of just one dude thrown into single player its a bunch of people doing whatever they feel like doing.

Lets throw a little wrench in this discussion; what is your least favorite kind of co-op?

If STALKER had co-op it would be the godliest game evar. I played through Halo co-op and that was a lot of fun. In older games like Contra co-op was more of a challenge mode. My favorite co-op was System Shock 2, where one character focused on psi powers and the other on weapons. So my vote is definitely single player campaign with a second player added in.

One where you have to have a partner, like RE 5. GoW wasn't so bad because your partner wasn't used for anything but and extra gun/meat shield, but when you have them doing things like in RE there's a lit of room for error.
Although controllable AI is good, like SW republic commando.
