The difference between the collectors edition and the regular version of a game can run anywhere from ten dollars upwards. The question is, what makes it woth it? I got the limited edition of Fallout 3 just for the luchbox and the bobble head, which I found to be well worth the twenty extra. I plan on getting the collectors edition of the new Batman game, because it comes with a twelve inch batarang among other things. I usually upgrade to a collectors edition for a figurine or somesuch. What makes the difference for you?

It depends on if you like collecting toys, collector edition figures, stuff like that. I kinda wish I got the Fallout 3 special edition because that Bobblehead would have been cool. I would mostly get one for extra in game content.

Something that in 5 years you can wave about in other people faces ( like that weird imp thing on the Wow collectors edition).

mainly for the DC(if it has any) and than all the "behind the scenes stuff".
but everything is nice, even the "toys".however some are weird, for example the "Arthas rise of the lich king comic(? or book?) thing is non-vegetarian friendly, because it comes with a leather gift box, sure it doesnt mean I have use it,but buying it adds to its demand.

I agree with this. But I spent so many man-hours making fun of people who bought the Halo 3 Special Edition to get a collectible Halo cookie tin that I don't think I could ever buy a collectors' edition without feeling fantastic amounts of shame.

Lots and lots of shame. I do have the special edition, but I didn't spend the $120 on the helmet.

I got the regular edition. Used. For twelve dollars.

I got the collectors edition halo wars for the extra halo 3 maps, graphic novel, and patch.

I got the collectors edition of Fallout 3 for the bobble head.

Im going to have to buy the legendary edition of halo 3 because when i preordered i dident know there were diffrent versions of it, so when i arived at my eb games at dday i asked the guy if i could change to a leg edition but he said they didnt have anymore cause they were all preordered.

Ive seen a bunch of them at FYE and Bestbuy for $75 so it should not be a big deal.

Im going to have to do the same thing with the Gears of War 2 collectors edition, when i bought my copy of the reg version i asked the guy if there was a collectors, he said no, so i just bought regular. Then i went to the virgin megastore and saw a bunch of them...

Mine was given to me for free along with DiRT when I bought my first 360 from my brother-in-law.

I too did not spring for the helmet, ahem ahem.

The last collector's edition I bought was the Kane Edition of C&C 3 which was actually kind of disappointing compared to the RA 2 Collector's Edition which came with a DVD of behind the scenes stuff, a figurine, and the soundtrack along with a fancy foil box.

If it is just artwork or additional content (interviews etc) I often skip the special edition depending on the price difference.

-GTA4 I paid the extra for the safty deposit box and the bag
-I would have spent the extra for the Japanese RE5 however the american/euopean versions were not worth it.
-I grabbed the resistance 2 one because i got it for the same price as the regular :)
-I tried to get the fallout 3 SE however by the time I went to get it only the regular copy was left.

I think ingame content other than useless pimp stuff like WoW non-combat pets, shold not be exclusive for the collectors eddition.

All sorts of goodies like in-game pimp, or off-game stuff like posters figures making of etc. is cool, but if there's real in-game content exclusive to the collectors eddition it feels like they're selling the game at more than full price, and the normal version is a watered down version, and not the complete game.

I have only ever bought one collector's edition game and one special edition game. I bought Guild Wars Nightfall: Collector's Edition purely because, for some bizarre reason, it was £30 cheaper than the normal version. I also once bought RE4: Special Edition and that was only because it was second hand and the only copy of the game in shop. Incidentally, I sold it recently for twice what I paid for it. To be honest, I just don't think that they are worth the extra umpteen pounds just for some slightly altered box art and fancy pants game booklet and maybe one bonus level which is shit any way.

I try to get limited editions whenever I can. Which is almost never due to a lack of funds. The only limited edition that I have and can think of is for Perfect Dark Zero, but I got it used and it didn't come w/ the bonus disk (kind of beats the point, doesn't it?). But I did get the nice metal case!

tried to get the L.E. for Fable 2, Mass Effect and Assassin's Creed, but no luck. (really want that Mass Effect one. Saw it once, had the art book and everything but I didn't have the money for it. That was a long while back and now I have the Platinum Hits Edition.)
