Oh wow its been a long time since I made a thread here, years in fact. Anyway enough of my dithering lets get on with the thread!

I assume we all know what Team Fortress 2 is, fun game, lots of hats, drama, etc. Also I assume quite a few of us know what Minecraft is, also a fun game, lots of blocks, drama, etc. What do they have in common? Community content, more so in TF2 then Minecraft but thats not the point.

The point is more that people get very worked up over the fact that someone other then the game devs themselves made. Now I hear people say things from, the developer is getting lazy, to the developer has run out of ideas, to even saying that the developer has given up on the game and wants the community to do all the work.

Now if you may have guessed already I don't buy this logic at all. At the same time I have a little problem, mostly revolving around how people come to there conclusions. I just don't get how people would get so worked up about it. Is it because they feel the developer that because its not coming out of the developer themselves its not going to be "up to par" with everything else? Or does it have to do with that people think it makes the developer look weak for reaching out to the community? I really have no idea.

My problem my be because I have been sticking around the wrong forums or it could be something else entirely. All I ask is that you guys help me figure out my little conundrum and maybe we can all get a better understanding on if community content is really good for a game.

Oh and before you post I have one little request. Please don't use this thread as a platform to flame TF2, Minecraft or any other games that use community content. Your free to use them as examples on the right or wrong ways to do community content but if your posting just to say how horrible a game is please make a new thread and have the discussion there.

It is a good thing. A very good thing. It allows the community to make the game their own. Add features you may have wanted, but couldn't. Fix many little issues that you may have overlooked. Maybe even optimize it better *cough*Oblivion*cough*.

It allows people too add to it, continue to evolve it, and let it live far longer then it would have. And if you end up tanking or whatever, your game can still get support, patches, and whatnot through the community.

Its a good thing. A very good thing.
