For those who haven't heard of Darkfall online, I can explain a bit about the game.
It is made by a small Greek company, there is only one server, and its hard to get a copy. The sales are only open once or twice a week, but the single server population boasts 10,000 players online at one time. The biggest and baddest of Hardcore MMO Guilds play this game.

Darkfall is a full loot hard-core MMO with 6 races. Humans, Elves and Dwarves are aligned with eachother, as are Orcs and Mahirim (wolf men), and the final race, Alfar (dark elves) is solo. However, each race can fully attack anyone of any race (including your own) out in the open world. Towns are guarded by towers which zap anyone who takes unfriendly action within their range.

The game has a guild and guild alliance system, allowing you to declare war on other guilds. This frees up any penalties from alignment one would normally take from killing a player. A player who kills another player of their race or racial allies loses alignment, causing them to go grey (freely attackable, cannot enter NPC towns, lasts 2 minutes) to red (freely attackable, cannot enter NPC towns, permanent until you gain alignment back). A player who kills a player of a different race which is not of their racial alliance, or a player who is red, gains alignment.

Most everything of value can be player crafted, and this is the main source of gear in the game. There is no auction house or player merchant system, so being in a guild where you trade gear with each other is an absolute need.

The game is FPS/TPS based. When casting magic or firing arrows, one has to aim and wait for your attack to go off (you can hold your attack and can fire it when you want to), and when fighting in melee you are in third person mode. Nothing is instant cast, each attack takes time to swing, charge, or fire. Arrows, weapons and spells take time to travel, and as such it takes quite a bit of skill and twitch to play DFO.

Its a long overdue concept of gaming, taking a radical step into the older, more hardcore MMO style. You can sign up on their forums at forums.darkfallonline.com and if you interested in buying a copy or learning more about the game, and there you will find the information on when sales are open.

Sounds like someone with a bad connection has god mode. It's hard to hit somebody who can warp around your screen.

Actually, it becomes harder to hit other players when your ping is high. Just like an FPS, when you have a high ping, the players are not where you see them on your screen, where people with good pings see you in the correct place.

The servers are in germany, and the average US ping to the server is an amazing 125. People from Korea or Japan average around 300, and those in Europe get a ping as low as 13. People with 13 pings are very hard to kill, but the majority of players are state-side.
