Well this is my first post and I'd like to get some introductory stuff over with. I love old games, I can hardly stand mostly every new game made with maybe only 20% of it being good(a majority of that being sports games). Now before you call it biased I give games a fair chance to prove themselves to me before I decide to "talk down" to them with my opinions. As for any posts you'll see from this name, will be reviewish.

To the point: Dead Island, is it a game worth the hype it's getting?
Anyone I know has for the most part become obsessed with this game, why? I see nothing good here at all to be blunt. I'll break it down in reaction steps to make this organized.

Preview at Gamestop: Friends goes, "Ohmygod! Dead Island due look!" I look and take in the preview yet I couldn't help feeling we've done this routine too much. Pretty graphics were a plus though, yet I yawned at it.

Giving a second chance: After further hearing the hype and excitement it's giving my friends I began watching Youtube play through(I enjoy analyzing a games beginning in order to decide if it's worth 60 freaking bucks, if it can't hook me through watching then it simply lacks something) The beginning of the game was interesting at least, "Fall Out 3 play style?" I thought, "Sweet." The player went on and on opening every single damn bag which got boring so I fast forwarded to the elevator when obvious things were about to go down(literally...) I predicted the whole scene to my dismay though I saw one thing, a zombie ran?! Oh hell here we go again Left 4 Dead....

Furthering my study: A random voice begins to guide the player to a Storage room, in which he's chased down a hall by fast as heck zombies. Only to barely shut the door to safety and turn around to get knocked out by what appeared to be a.....zombie? At this point my head slammed my keyboard. I'm all for innovation, but this takes away the whole zombie thing to me. Zombies shouldn't be able to sprint and shouldn't be able to full force knock someone out, why even knock him out? It clearly could have bit him and ate him. Not much going for it so far and the beginning is made to reel a player in....if I were playing it, just like Devil May Cry 4, I would have stopped already.

Now I could go on and on here, but I'm going to point out things that this game has that's been done before.

1. Fall Out 3 game style.
2. Warcraft talent trees
3. ZOMBIES.

You see the problem today is, zombies are too over done. They're not even something to fear anymore. Dead Rising 2 which I feel Dead Island is a cardboard copy just about(only much worse) made a total joke of a huge zombie outbreak in a mall. What happened to "survival horror"? Amnesia the Dark Descent for example, now that was survival horror for ya. That had me yelping and left clueless at times, totally helpless as well. Castlevania(the first ones) were great survival games and were scary just due to the shear challenge. Dead Island in conclusion is simply nothing special to me, the idea has been done way too much, the gameplay no matter how you change it has been beaten to death. Overall it's a bland game that's somehow getting attention(kind of like Angry Birds, and yes I despise Angry Birds)

Now before flaming comes in, I did play a half hour of Dead Island. Only to drop the controller and go back to Pokemon Emerald(nostalgia...even if it was the worst region.) Dead Island just doesn't have enough appeal like Dead Rising had, even though I wouldn't say Dead Rising is great it was at least good for some kicks and fun for a while not to mention it could get rather challenging. Don't lie to me, TK was a total pain to fight that first S ending play through.

In complete closing, thank you for reading this small review. This is all just my opinion there's honestly no need to go crusade this forum to flame me for it. You guys can post your opinions too, just no flaming I'm tired of the internet being full of it just because someone feels a different way.

Hype? Shortly after that nicely done trailer, it seemed to me that everyone realized that a non-gameplay trailer that tells almost nothing about the game doesn't mean a whole lot. Dead Island is still on my "give it a shot on a rainy day, maybe" list.

Apparently it's lots of fun if you're into that sort of thing, but it's highly unpolished. Like Bethesda's games, but because this is a new developer they don't get a free pass.

From what I've heard, which is quite a lot, this is like comparing Borderlands to Fallout 3.

Right. That just looks terrible.

I dont think it is. It reminded me of Left 4 Dead which I didnt like due to people constantly showering Valve with its N64 era looking games with praise, and Fallout which I actually like but am starting to not care for Bethesda due to everyone constantly showering Skyrim with praise like its the only good game coming out this year.

I'm gonna go look up a Dead Island LP now and see just what you're talking about, but going from what you said:

No, running zombies aren't zombies. Zombies that knock people out? That's...just dumb.

Just call it a ghoul!
There are other flesh eating monsters aside from zombies. I agree that zombies are being way too overdone, and it's only because anybody who wants to make a horror game that isn't based off Japanese horror thinks they need to use the Unholy trinity of movie monters to sell their title: Vampires, Werewolves, and Zombies.

You have no idea how much Hollywood and worse yet the gaming industry has screwed these mythologies up because they want to "do their own thing". Here's a tip: You want to do your own thing? MAKE A NEW MONSTER! I know of five monsters right off the bat from Japanese and English lore that would make for more unique and terrifying situations than running zombies.

The terror in zombies is the horde, not their hunger for flesh. You want smart, quick, and violent zombies?
Make it a bunch of psycho cannibals. Case solved. Stop fucking up zombies to the point where they aren't zombies anymore.

sorry, you just strike me as someone who's trying to hard to hate on a game dude.

The teaser trailer, absolutly stunning.. but it's not a tell of gameplay.. granted i've only played about an hour, but have to say i do get the dead rising vibe to it, only without that pain in the ass timer. Also, multi-player.

But, yea, it basically boils down to a simple question, do you have fun killing zombies? if yes, sure.. worth a shot if no, then, honestly, why are you even looking at this game?
