Which one is better and tell me why?

I don't understand why Resident Evil 4 got so much critical acclaim while Dead Space was branded as above average and nothing more. They are basically the same game except that Dead Space is better on every aspect. When Resident Evil (1) initially came out, it was just a horror game where things went bump in the night and thats what made it great. Dead Space came much closer to what the original Resident Evil was all about, maybe the horror wasn't sustainable but at least it tried. At no point during my time with RE4 did I think any of it was even supposed to be scary, the whole game was based purely on action, which I think was done better in Dead Space as well. The only thing RE4 had that DS didn't was online co-op, but lets be honest...anyone who has played the RE4 cop-op for more than an hour knows your better off doing it alone anyway (I don't need 13 year old twats shooting me in the back with the ammo I JUST GAVE YOU, YA BASTARD). I know I'm goign to get a lot of RE fanboys flaming me, but I'm hoping the DS fans will come out and voice their opinions as well.

No versus threads, its obvious flame bait
OT: Resident Evil 4 is better, because its not trying to be scary, at least not all the time. Dead space tries to be scary, but Im not sold on it just on that fact

I don't like both of them, but if i had to chose, i would chose Dead Space. It has action, gore and stuff, the plot is not interesting, but the gameplay can be entertaining... i guess.
As for resident evil games - they suck (opinion based) SUCK!!! (opinion). Seriously, the worst plots ever, bad controls (for PC, that is), unbalanced difficulity, stupid looking enemies, worst inventory ever made and i didn't like all those weird ''press x not to die'' type of things thrown randomly. I died first 20 when some random rock started rolling down the hill for no reason, but to check my reflexes and reminding that i don't know which button makes him avoid the rock.

So because it wasn't scary makes it a better game? I don't understand, this is supposed to be a horror game right?

It doesn't matter what's better, all that matters is which you prefer to play.

Also, RE4 didn't have any kind of Co-op mode, RE5 did however.

I like both, personally, I loved RE4, DS and RE5 are both equally 'meh' for me, but I still enjoyed playing them

Resident Evil 4 is better.
As much as I loved Dead Space, I love RE4 so much more. Better story, better characters. It was just more amusing.

No! Bad Chinese_Democracy! No versus threads! *Hits CD on nose with newspaper*

OP: I prefer Dead Space because it's at least a bit scary and it has inventive weapons, and the zero gravity sections.

Dead Space in my eyes. That being said I played an loved both just felt Dead Space had a better atmosphere for a horror game. Hard decision though

I'm a fan of the old school Resident Evil games so I wasn't overly impressed by RE4 because I had to view it through tank movement and pre-rendered environment tinted glasses(I want a pair). I have never had any need to play DS after seeing it played. It just bored me to pieces.

I could ,however, play RE4. Thus, in my opinion, RE4 is a better game for me.

Let me put it to you this way: Dead Space has a gun which launches a remote controlled circular saw blade to remove your enemies' limbs. Yeah... awesome.

But RE4 did revolutionize the genre with the over the shoulder camera and atache case.

Both are great games, for different reasons. I refuse to say which is 'better'.

They both suck.

RE5 has terrible controls and camera making it incredibly annoying. The graphics do not make up for it.

Dead Space's controls are not so bad but then again still it looks rubbish and gets really frustrating.

I guess I'll go with Resident Evil 5 just because watching people suffer in that game playing co-op is really fun.

Both were good IMO. Niether one was all that much better than the other. Just different settings and weapons. I had fun with them and I suppose that is the bottom line.

RE4 beat it out by about just over 4 years. It came out a time when NOBODY made games like that, took an aging franchise and reimagined it. Most of all it did it well, was a pretty big game and it was original. At thesame time it was also unmistakably Resident Evil.

Dead space is short and ruthlessly generic, even down to the monster deigns. It barely has any identity at all, it could easily be Gears, Kill.switch, or Resident Evil with a few skin and logo changes.

Neither has any horror on account of the terrifying efficiency of your weapons and the enormous, predictable audio cues you get for the enemies.

Basically RE4 will be remembered as better because it's responsible for most of the ideas Dead Space makes use off. Or to put it another way, it was a pleasant surprise, while Dead Space was no surprise at all.

If you want to be remembered, get in first.
